I hated potty training, it's been the thing I have disliked most about parenting so far.  It took almost a year for my first to be completely potty trained.  Part of the problem was that I started much too soon (always so ambitious with the first), and we had so many life changes going on that we kept having to start over (i.e. my second was born, and then a few months later we moved etc.).   With my second I'm waiting until he begs me to stop putting him in diapers!  :)  Hopefully it goes better for you!

I started potty training my eldest at a year, and OMG was she a nightmare. She just never even seemed to realise that she had pee'd herself, even if she was sitting in it in a pair of big girl pants. It was exasperating. I'd sit her on the potty for 20 mins, she'd stand up, take two steps and wet herself without even noticing. All potty training did was upset me, stress her out and we got no where. All of a sudden, at 2.5 years old, it just clicked and within 2 weeks she was dry day and night. With my youngest I refuse to push it this time. It doesn't get you anywhere. If they aren't ready, they aren't ready. You can't "train" their bladders to effectively send messages to their brains and for them to then correctly translate that in enough time for them to use the potty. That is something they have to learn themselves. My youngest tells me now when she wants pee pee or poopy, shes just 14 months, but its always after the fact. Thats really good though, thats the first step. So I'm just following her lead, she says pee pee, and I pop her on the potty. No fuss, if she doesn't say it, thats no bother either, if she wets herself, I don't mind. I much more relaxed about it this time round. Unless there is something wrong, you're child will be dry, at least during the day, by the time they are 5 :) and most by the time they are 3. 2.5 years seems to be the average time though :) So try not to get too stressed if your 1 year old struggles.

I think its easiest to potty train and the child seems more willing the younger they are. When they get older, you end up starting to battle the wills on most things including potty training. Good luck!

It depends on the child. My first son, was OK fairly easy. I did put the potty in the living room, so he can get to it faster. My second son, was even easier, both took a few weeks for them to go with out pull ups. And they were about 2 -2.5 years old. However, my daughter is only 9 months, don't know if its easier or not.
