My daughter is very smart for her age- she knows too much!
We have a routine set up (kinda). But it isn't working. She gets a bath every other night. Quiet time starting around 7:30. We start getting ready for bed at 8pm. PJ's. Potty time. Pull-up (Easy-up) or night time diaper. Hugs and kisses for everyone (we are currently living with the paternal grandparents). Then in her big girl bed. Tucked in. Read a book. Or two. She gets one cup of water. Tell her goodnight, see her in the morning, not to get out of bed, be quiet and listen to her music (Violet plays 2, 5, 10 minutes of bedtime music).
After the cup is empty, it gets thrown to the floor. Not long after, she is either at the gate in her doorway or in our room, saying "I'm thiiiirsty!" or "I'm hung-gar-reee!" "You come tuck me in an fix my blankeys!" or "I have to go potttttty!" and occasionally "I want to sleep with youuuuu!" All excuses to get out of bed, I'm sure.
So one of us would go in 1 or 2 more times. Tuck her in, tell her no more water unless she's quiet for 10-15 minutes (hoping she would fall asleep before getting more water) or no more tucking in so don't get up. She will usually fall asleep by 9:30 or 10 but is all the struggle really worth it? Are we doing something wrong?
Lately she gets up a few times in the night. around 3, 4, or 5. She will come in our room and demand food. Not too awake. Saying "I'm hung-gar-reeee!" or "I wanna watch toons for a lil while!" or "I want Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!". Each time, we tell her it is way too early, everyone else is sleeping, it's too early for toons (cartoons- we let her watch an hour or so in the morning around 8am) or to eat. So mommy or daddy tucks her back into bed.
Mind you, She's had her big girl bed for a few months now and we had a good streak of not getting out of it. Is this just a phase??
