how to keep crayons/markers out of mouth...

If you have any advice Id love it! Mine is 21 mo and although he loves to scribble and I encourage him to, he will not keep them away from his mouth! Our coloring adventures are always cut way short because its like he just cant help himself to bite off the end of the crayon.

I dont want to keep them away till hes older if I dont have to, but what are ways to teach him not to do it. Keep in mind he knows, he points at pictures of crayons/pencils and points to his mouth sounding a yuck noise, yet he continues the behavor..

Hun My daughter is 2 and at time she still does, but you have to just keep at it and hope it works.

yea you are right, I do pull it away and show and tell him he cant do it, Ill just keep a goin lol until he learns not to

Sit with him, don't give them to him without supervision. I had one child that learned quickly not to put them in his mouth, and one child that didn't stop chewing on them until right after he turned 3. Continue pulling them away from his mouth he will eventually stop chewing on them. Keep in mind though he is only 1 year old, yuck and 'don't put in your mouth' probably aren't synonymous yet.

I have been giving him those twistable crayons thinking a little peek of the crayon at the end will keep him from biting it, but he learned he can twist it up and even (somehow IDK how) pull the small peice of crayon up so the rest of the crayon comes out. lol I wish I could figure it out, I will try the animal shaped plastic holders and the color pencils, hopefully itll tone it down a bit. Thank yall!

you have to sit with him and keep pulling his hand away from his mouth i dont even give my 2 yo crayons he thinks they are a tasty snack markers he doesnt like as much

If you can figure this one out, I think you'll have answered one of those age old parenting questions XD



The only thing you can really do is to keep an eye on him. You can use those baby/toddler friendly crayons (animal shaped plastic holders for the crayons). Or what I found was to use pencil for a while. Either regular pencil or pencil crayons. It's not as harmful to chew, easier to stop without all the nasty bits and pieces, etc. I just generally found them easier for my kids.
