Okay, my daughter is almost 16 months old and I cannot get her off the bottle of formula. I've tried cold milk, I've tried warm milk - she only wants to drink formula! No juice either - just water or formula!

I just came from my paediatricians and she feels there's too many calories in the formula and she wants her off....easier said than done!

Suggestions???

Thanks,

N

We did the weaning thing also, first more formula than milk on down until it was all milk. I also did a sippy with water in it just for playing with the expectation that I would give a bottle three times a day, after breakfast, after lunch and at bedtime. Both of my kids that I did the sippy thing with got use to having the sippy all day so it wasn't too devastating when we went to only bedtime bottle and then no bottle at all. I don't see why you couldn't do both at the same time as long as your weaning increments are small enough not to hit her with two major things at the same time.

i would worry about the formula first bottle last. try doing half of formula and half mile for a couple days in the bottle. then everyother day just use less formula and more milk. after she gets used the milk in the bottle let it alone for like a month then you can try to slowly tak her off the bottle.

I had a similar problem. I did what the other ladies suggested and it worked! My daughter is 16 months too. I started giving the sippy cup with water in it to play with. She thought it was a funny toy in the begining but she figured out how to get the water out and she thought that was just the coolest thing. Try to get one of those sippy cups that is similar to a bottle, and do the transition slowly.

My son was the same way. So every week I would add another oz of Milk to the formula and deduct that oz of formula away. Soo a 5oz bottle would be 4oz of formula and 1 oz milk til the next week. He's loves milk now...but it has to be warm. Good luck =]

have you tried putting 70% formula with 30% cows milk, then reducing the formula over a week or so?
