If he use to scream to the sight of the potty, maybe leave it for a couple of weeks, but keep the potty in sight at all times so he gets to see it.....make it part of the furniture...something thats always around.  Our bathroom is downstairs so the potty first went up in his bedroom...then came downstairs to the lounge....and one in the bathroom....

Glad that you thought I was helpful.

Let me know how it goes!

Hello

My son has only just turned 3 years and had finally started using the potty.  We tried everything to get him to use it. Didn't mind sitting on it but then the novelty wore off.  The phrase 'when they're ready' unfortunately is very much it.

What have you tried to do?  We showed him a reward chart, but didnt work, I took him to the potty every 40 to 50 mins and sat with him...let him rip toilet paper and put through his leg as a game, ran the bathroom tap, you name it we tried.  As my son will be going to Foundation Level after Easter he has to be potty trained, so 3 weeks ago I took the bull my the horns and stripped him off...bare bum and dealt with the concequences of puddles to mop up....after two days he sat on the potty, and now he is good with a bare bum, wees and poos, but now I have to tackle pants and trousers!!!

dont fight him, take your time...and if you haven't started using Pull-Ups, dont!!!  One of my friends it took 3 weeks of taking her son to the toilet every hour before he wee'd...its one of those things they have to learn....to hold on to it and then let it go.....

Note when he gets a wet nappy, time it and then try sitting him on the potty before you put a clean one on....

If you do decided to go bare bum, recommend getting the throw away nappy mats by Pampers to put on chairs and sofas!

sorry, I've just re-read what I've written and it doesn't seem much to help you....

Good Luck
