My son (who's now 9) never went to a toddler bed. When he was 3 we put him in a twin bed and he had no problem with the switch. Until then he was in his crib. With my daughter we put her in a toddler bed a couple months before she turned 2...it was a hard adjustment for her and I've often wondered if she wasn't ready for the change. With her, we had the shorter front crib, and she's quite the climber, so we wanted to get her out of the crib before she decided to try to climb out. I think it really depends on your child and how they adjust to change and if they seem ready to be out of a crib. Good luck with figuring it out - and I hope you get more sleep after moving your child to a toddler bed than I had with my daughter!

it all depends on the child, i put my daughter in a toddler bed when she was a little over 2 and i think i waited to long. my son is now just a little over one and i am thinking of putting him in a bed now. but make sure it is a low to ground bed. and make sure they can get off it without hurting themselves and it would prob be a good idea to wait till she can walk

well, my daughter is 22 months and i havent gotten her, her toddler bed. But she knows how to get out her crib(not the wooden ones but the ones look like a play crib) And knows how to get out. Every time it's bed time. She get's out her bed and out the room(knows how to open doors). I do, is everytime she get out. I put her back in and about 3 to 5 times or so(stressing) she finally get's the fact that it's beddy time. But I think Im doing it the hard way. It's the only way for her though.

I set up the regular bed - a low captain's bed with drawers last summer in preparation for my son moving to it. He didn't show any interest in it at all for months but suddenly in early October he asked to sleep in "the big bed" so I let him sleep in it for his afternoon naps. That went on for about a month before I tried over night as I have a new born and I didn't want to deal with him getting in and out of bed for hours in the evenings. However by early November we decided to put him in his big bed at night and he took to it much more easily than I would have thought possible. I had to threaten him with sleeping in the crib a couple times (which he didn't want to do) and actually put him back in his crib for 5 minutes or so while he was screaming and insisting on sleeping in the big bed. Once I put him back in the big bed after a session in the crib he would stay there as he knew I was serious about the crib threat. Now he doesn't have any problems. He is just turning two this weekend.

I put my son in his toddler bed as soon as he started to climb out of the crib... that way he didnt hurt himself by falling. Also I put the toddler bed in his room for quite a while before then so that he got used to it. When he would fall asleep in the car or randomly around the house I laid him in it instead of his crib... just to help with the switch. Just be ready for the little one to come climb in bed with you every nite for a while.

Whenever you want to, when they don't like there crib anymore, not enough room, or ar trying to climb out. I swiched my kids 2-2.5, but right to a twin bed with a rail. The twin is bigger to grown into to, and you can put a bigger railing.

Unless you have a cot bed that converts or very little space,i would buy a low full length bed.My daughter was about 2 and half when she went in to a low 4ft bed.She didn't try to climb out thou.If they are climbing out of cot then it's best then

My son started to climb outta the crib when he was 12 months old and we put him in a toddler bed for his saftey. He hated it so we went to a twin bed and more then not he stays in that. every child is different and when you feel that yours is unsafe or big enough then that will be the time for you. Good luck!!

I think that you should first evaluate how your child sleeps in the crib. Does she try to get out? Is she constantly crying? If your answer is yes and she's able to get on and off of the toddler bed effortlessly then I think she's ready. That what I based my decision on. My daughter was almost 2 when I put her in her toddler bed. Good luck!

I agree with last post. Wait until the baby tries (or succeeds) in getting out of the crib. I think my daughter was 2 1/2. My son turns 1 in a week and he hasn't even thought about trying to climb out yet. Hopefully we have another year.

Omg my daughter is still in her crib & i still get noo sleep at all. she wakes up so much! I guess thats what I get for putting her in bed with me bc it got cold at night when our heater broke. she might be ready for the change she seems to love my bed.

well my son is almost two and i put him in his toddler bed when he started to climb out of his crib.. he didnt like it though.. so i get him to sleep and then just put him in his bed. When i first started puttin him in there he would sneak in bed in the early morning and so i would change him and let him go back to sleep with me then once he was asleep put him back in his bed. Hope that helps you..

Hello again! I wouldn't switch her over until she tries to get out. We didn't change over his crib to a toddler bed until a month after his 2nd b-day. He tried to climb out and that's when it happened! My motto is don't fix it unless it's broken :-)
