Is 16 months old too early to travel with on an airplane?

My 16 month old daughter is very active & does not sit still. We are thinking of taking a family vacation that involves a 4.5 hr flight & are afraid she will scream the whole way.
Do you think we should wait a year to fly with her or go ahead with our plans??

My son is 4 yrs old now but we took a 2 hr flight to Florida when he was 3 mths, then to DR when he was 1 yr. Both times he did fine without a problem. Our pediatrician said to feed him during take-off and landing so that his ears wouldn't pop and bring along a decongestant if he was really cranky after the flight. We didn't need the decongestant.

I agree with AMA, take along books, favorite toys & snacks, your daughter should be ok.

Hi there, I am a mom of an 11 year old daughter and a 1 year old son. When my son was 8 months old we flew from Canada to Ghana,West Africa total flying time was about 16 hours!! He did awesome..no crying... Just take books and his favorite toys and snacks, time will fly by ;)

I took my active daughter at 16 months on a 4.5 hour flight to Lanzarote. We had absolutely no problems at all because we purchased a seat for her and took a car seat. She thought she was in the car and sat perfectly still and even managed a nap. We fot her out for a walk half way through, up and down the aisle and was great. That could not be said for the parents that had fidgety kids on their laps and could not eat or drink because they had no room. There were alot of parents pulling their hair out.

I can not stress enough how easy it was to fly with a seat for her. We had leg room and could eat and we had the freedom to walk ourselves and go to the loo with out having to pass the baby. Look into it now and take the worries away.
