Is it really okay to lie to a child about a binky fairy?

I don't like the idea of lying to a child. To say there is a fairy that took the bink, seems like it could lead to more questions. Like: Will the fairy take my toys? Maybe he doesn't understand what a fairy is and starts thinking it is a monster, and the monster will take him. At this point, I feel like it is an unnecessary lie.

if you are planning on him believing santa clause is real then its the same thing. As for me I wont be telling my kids anything is real if it isnt real no Santa, no eater bunny, no tooth fairy no fake characters.

its not like its a bad lie... just like santa, easter bunny, tooth fairy etc. or are you not going to have him believe in those either? and as for thinking the fairy is a monster, just explain to him that its a nice fairy and helps kids or something.

Must say have never had to worry about this none of my children had dummies. As for using the story i don't think it would do him any harm. If you was always so straight forward with your chlld it takes all the fun away. If you really don't want to use it there are many other methods out there. Like losing them all. works quite well i believe or maybe he will grow out of it.

Regarding lying about the binky fairy... I personaly think its ok, gives their imagination something to imagine. And if you think the binky fairy is an unnecessary lie where do you draw the line? Santa? Easter Bunny? Tooth Fairy?

I found a think on the net called bye bye binky (its free) and used that. By the time Laura got to day 5 she didn't want the binky anymore and slept soundly through the night. She has went without a dummy ever since and has never resorted to thumb sucking etc. I would recommend it to anyone, but you have to follow the instructions exactly! I had to start again because I didn't read the instructions properly and she realised what I was doing.

My son was so addicted to his it was ridiculous! He had a ton and whenever we lost one we'd Just buy a new one so we decided that we would Just let him lose them all on his own and once they were all gonw that was it, no more 'boppy' is what he called it. Well he lost the last one for about a week and was starting to do ok without it and I honestly had no idea where it was! And then ironically the same day he fell and cut his eyebrow real bad he found it again so me being a softy let him have it because he'd had a rough day! So then it was about a month later and we were out shopping and I put it in my purse so he wouldn't lose it well i'd forgotten I had done that and thought we lost it somewhere in the store, and when I found a few days later I just kept it hidden. So there are ways around lying, and you don't have to make up some fairy story. I know my son never would've bought that idea! And the first few days will be a little rough but it gets better, he still occassionally asks about it when he sees other kids with them, but he doesn't freak out over it anymore. I'm just really lucky my younger son doesn't use one because then it definitely would've been a harder battle. But I hope you find a way that satisfies both you and your son, who knows maybe one day he just won't want it anymore.
