hi there
my son had croup and they had to give him steroids to open his lungs, if you have already taken your child to the hospital make sure to open a window in the house so he gets fresh air. also a humidifier helps alot at night. take him out side alot to get more fresh air as it helps clear the mucus from his lungs.
run the hot shower until the bathroom is steamy. let your child in the bathroom to inhale all the steam for as long as he can stand the heat. try to get him to cough and spit the mucus out.
i hope it helps. this stuff helped my son beofre and after we took him to the hospital. the hospital told us the fresh air is the most important thing for a child with croup.

I got those shower shoothers and took my little one in the shower with me.... they are not medicated... but they help. I will say though- get into the doctor. Antibiotics are going to be the best thing. Good luck...
