My 2 year old will NOT sleep in his own room or bed

I am at a loss; I don't know what to do. My son will NOT sleep in his own room or bed. He cries for what seems like ever then falls asleep. He won't stay in his room unless we lock his door. We had to lock the door because he would just crawl over (or fall off of) the gates we put up. He always wakes up a couple of times at night and wants to crawl into bed with us. When we tell him No and put him back into his bed he just cries and screams. Any Advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

I just want to say I agree with Rachael. Keep putting your son back in bed, say nothing to him. As the nights go on he should stay in his bed longer and not come out so much.

i know its hard and would possibly take anything from 5 nights, but in the night prepare yourself for a restless night with no sleep, keep picking him up and putting him back in his room, shut the door, (also take the gate off so he doesnt fall out,) if he can open it and comes back into your room, pick him up and put him back again, whilst doing this dont speak or make eye contact with him, you could be doing this about 40 times in the night, but after 5 nights may take shorter length time, he will learn that its not working, and will eventually give in and stop crying and go to sleep, giving you both a good nights sleep! try it and let me know
