My almost 2 year old has a lisp and underbite - anything I can do?

So, my daughter (21 month) has an underbite and I noticed a lisp when she says certain words. I did some research on the internet and most of the comments are "most likely the underbit / lisp will go away by itself". I'm realy afraid she will start school in a few years and kids will make fun of her if she still has a lisp. Anyone out there who knows what I can do? My insurance will not pay for speech therapy so I'm afraid of the cost for that. Any good books out there with exercises that I can teach my daughter? The underbite is another thing that worries me, I know braces will most likely fix that problem but of course she has to get older for that.

Any tips regarding lisp and underbites are apreciated.

P.S. I'm new and this is my first post so I'm still trying to figure everything out. Where is the spell check button???

Thank You!

I wouldn't think a lisp at 21 months is a problem. My boy, 26 months, doesn't really say 's' although he can hiss when pretending to be a snake. Instead he says what sound like the Welsh 'ch', as in 'sos coch' (ok I know few people will understand that but I can't describe it any other way!)

At 21 months your daughter is to young for speech therapy just yet. Most speech therapists take children from 30 months. Most children have trouble saying certain words until the age of about 3-4 when they have more control so don't worry about this just now. As for the underbite there is little you can do about that but seek the advice of an orthodontist who will be able to advise you.
