My son is 30 months (2&1/2) and still doesn't sleep through the night.

We have tried everything! Not only does he not sleep through the night, getting him to go to sleep at all is a total nightmare! He isn't one of those kids that will cry themselves to sleep. He will scream for HOURS or until he gets so worked up that he ends up throwing up. We follow the same routine every night and we even tried melatonin for a while. It worked wonders for about a week and then all of a sudden it stopped working! I'm 6 months pregnant and simply can't keep going on this way. Help!

My son used to be one of those kids that just gets more wound up when left to cry it out, but now he's old enough (he's 28 months, same age as your son) to understand if I tell him that if he wakes up at night, he should play with his stuffed dog until he feels sleepy again and then lie down and go back to sleep, because Mama's not coming, and he might cry, but he puts himself back to sleep after a while. Have you tried explaining it to him and then letting him cry it out recently? Maybe something has changed since the last time.
