My nearly 2 year old son won't stop eating cat food, pens, pencils, toothpaste tubes, and pretty much every thing else he can get his hands on! Should I be worried, and if so what can I do to stop this behavior?

My 22 month old gets into the cat food and then refuses to eat his dinner. I am very concerned and will call the doctor. I was wondering if it's a phase it exactly what people might think it is

My son just turned a year old today and he is in love with dog food. I think it is just the point that he is not supposed to be around it because he first started with the water bowl and went to the food. I know plenty of kids that have done the same. I don't think that it will harm the child in any way as long as that isn't a meal.

We don't have a cat, but do have dogs. About the time my son started walking he starting stilling dog food every chance he got. I had to start feeding the dogs in the laudry room and closing the door. He is two now and still will sneak a piece anytime he thinks no one is looking. Although I do what I can to stop him from eating what he has eaten so far hasn't hurt him, and someday he will grow out of it.

You should mention it to her doctor. There is a condition that makes kids eat/chew on strange things (like soap, shoe polish, metal, etc). It could also be some kind of vitamin deficiency. If the body is lacking something then we'll go for anything we think might have it. Definitely check with the doc!!

Both of my daughters have done it I would just watch was she gets a hold of other then that I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I would ask your doctor. It's probably just normal, my doctor said it was but my daughter was younger than your son when she did it. So I don't know. I had a friend who had to take her daughter to therapy for it, she had Pica. But she was 3 when this happened? I'd just ask your doctor.

My daughter did that too! Wow am i glad she got out of that stage. I never really worried about it and she just stopped one day. But i found out that there are tons of kids who eat cat food, among other wierd things, so I wouldnt worry.
