I don't have boys, but from what I've heard its ok if they learn to pee sitting down, standing up can come later, maybe when there's a guy around he can emulate. Have you tried pull-ups? I've also heard that some kids just need to get used to the idea of the potty chair, even if that means keeping it in the living room and not even using it to pee in at first, just to sit on. Just keep trying, but don't push too hard. He's still little, you have time!

My son didn't want to learn either. I tried so many different methods and he never do it on the toilet, he'd wee on the floor or pooh in the bath. So I gave up and on the weekend he started asking me if he could go to the toilet.
So the lesson I learned is, follow their lead. He'll let you know when he's ready, just get him familiar with the process and he'll get there eventually.

Just let it go. If he's not in to it then he's not ready. When the weather gets warmer let him run around without pants on and direct him to the potty even if he starts to go....sitting down is easiest. Praise, praise, praise. Lots of cleaning up, ask for his help and don't ever punish for accidents. Its fairly common that boys aren't ready until they are around 3 or so.
