My son will be 3 in February. How can I get him off the bottle??? He already uses sippy cups and regular children's sized cups. But he will only drink milk from the bottle. He'll refuse to drink his milk until I put it back in a bottle...I don't know what else to do. Plus I know if he keeps using the bottle, it's messing up the way his teeth are growing in and the way he talks. Did anyone else have this problem? What can I do?

I can definitely relate with your problem. My daughter is 2 1/2 and she always wanted her milk in a bottle too. We have been without the bottle for about a week now. She bit through the nipple so I told her that the bottle cannot be fixed and we need to get rid of it. When I started putting milk in a sippy she refused to drink it. This went on for about 4 days. Finally I took her to the store and had her pick out a sippy cup that she liked. She now drinks milk from a sippy!

I will just have to try getting rid of the bottles, maybe like Amanda had mentioned and do it with him to say bye bye to the bottles....bcoz he has no problem drinking fr a cup or sippy with any other drink except the milk. I'm not worried about flavoring bcoz he likes white milk anyway. Hopefully I can do it and be firm...I just feel bad and dont want him to feel like I'm being mean u know...Thanks for the advice & suggestions ladies! Let's hope for the best and no more bottles!! :)

After I took my son off the bottle he doesn't seem to want to drink a lot of milk if any out of a cup. Just make sure he is eating other dairies. I have my son taking a children's chewable, half a tab once a day, because he don't want to drink milk. The lady at WIC told me to think about the vitamin. Also about the only way I can get him to drink milk is by either adding the choc syrup or just buying choc milk because he will drink it that way. Yes it is extra sugar but the way I look at it it should be a little better than the bottle because if you say it is affecting his teeth and speech I would definitely try it. I know as a mom to a mom it is hard to do this but remember to be persistent and aventually he should drink out of a sippy or cup. Hope this helps and good luck Linda

I automatically took away the binkie and bottle on their 1 year birthday. I agree with Helene. Your best bet is to take all the bottles out of the house, don't give in and run out and buy a bottle when he tantrums either. It seems to be a security issue like a blanket could be to some. If it is not in sight, he will forget about it. He'll want the milk sooner or later and will take it from the cup. Amanda makes a good point about the flavoring, but don't get him addicted to it or you will never get him to drink white milk again. Maybe give him flavoring just with lunch and white milk all other times. Hope this helps :)

One thing I've heard of is having your son help gather up all the bottles and throw them away and say good-bye to them. (You don't actually have to throw them away, you can have him put them in a bag or something, then when he's not there you can put them up somewhere where he can't see if you want) and then just use a sippy. In the end you just have to be firm and stick to your guns and not give in. Another thing is putting just a little flavoring in the milk in his cup. I put a little chocolate or strawberry in my kid's milk sometimes.

I had a smilar probem with my son who is now almost 5. I was that frustrated when he was about two and half that one day I got rid of all the bottles in the house. For a bit he took a temper tantrum but after that he has never looked back and used a cupYou just have to stick to ur guns and be firm, but in a positive way.
