My daughter who is 2 and a half and normally quiet happy to go off and play on her own or be left to be baby sat by friends & family whilst I am at work has all of a sudden become very clingy.

She is constantly climbing all over me playing with my hair and screams when I leave her to go to work and crys for me when I am away.

Anyone got any ideas on why this is, I haven't changed anything recently and it is driving me to distraction.

my son has also started doing this, he is usually very confident around family and friends, but i have a college course that is starting soon so to try and prepare my son for a full day without me (6 hrs) while i attend my course he has been doing 2 1hr batches of care a week by a private daycare, and now he thinks that every place im taking him to even my immediate family like my parents home hes to make sure that i am going with him and staying otherwise he will kick up a huge fuss, sometimes i wonder if this was the right decision to make but harsh as it may sound and as upsetting as it makes me i still carry it through with the daycare as there is going to be some days i wont have the choice, and i wont be able to achieve my career goals.

My daughter is doing this as well, though I just had another baby a few months ago. It might be the age that they are at, they want independence but they still want their mommy. Whenever my daughter gets clingy I distract her with something else. For example I will turn on some of her favorite music or I will find her baby doll. This usually helps.

my daughter was doing the same thing! All of a sudden she wants to be held and carried and screams bloody murder if I put her down. I think this is just a phase - hopefully. I try to distract her and give her little jobs to do (can you go and do this for mommy?) or challenge her (can you show me how you walk up the stairs by yourself?) Others have told me that I should only pick her up every third time she asks, but that is near impossible when she is crawling up my legs and won't let me move. I also try to have specific "snuggle" time so that she understands that she will get her time with me. Seems to help.
