My husband and I are taking my 2 year old to Cabo San Lucas in July. This is our first flight with her. I wanted some advice from parents who have done a long flight and how they dealt with the check in process and what they brought on the plane to help the time pass. Can you take a stroller and carseat on the flight with you? Do we even need the carseat on the plane?

Once my son turned 2 and I HAD to buy him a ticket,I liked bringing my sons car seat on the plane with me. He was strapped in his car seat and it was like he was in the car. No squirming! I am not sure how long you will be on the plane, but the longest we were on was like 2 1/2- 3 hours and my son did great. I brought little toys that he had never seen before, and made sure to have plenty of snacks. It also helped that he fell asleep for a little bit! Out of the 5 or 6 times I have flown with my son, I have been by myself for at least 1/2 of them. It is definitely easier having an extra set of hands! Good luck and have fun!!!

make sure she drinks while they are taking off. i found the Aqua Doodle and the Crayola coloring books that only color on that paper were great for our 2 1/2 yr old. Crayola has one that comes in its own case for the book and the markers. i grabbed a little backpack and put her stuff in there and it was her carry-on; bottle, snacks, Aqua Doodle and Coloring stuff. check w/the airline - JetBlue lets you check your carseat and stroller at no charge. if you bought her a seat, you don't need the carseat.

good luck!

Bring along a few toys and coloring books, and a portable dvd player if you have one. I had to fly from Germany to Texas when my son was 2 and he did really good with that stuff. You can take carseats on the plane as long as they're approved for flying, not all of them are. Look on the sides of the carseat and there should be a sticker stating whether or not it's FAA approved. It's a pain to lug the carseat on the plane but it will keep the kid from squirming out of the seatbelt, that's the only problem I had flying with him.

Bring something to for your toddler to drink or chew on while the plane takes off and lands (the moment the plane starts to lower to land make sure she at least sucking on a pacifier or drinking something), that will help with popping the ears so her ears don't feel a lot of pressure. If you have one, you can take a portable dvd player to watch videos etc. Bring a stroller with you, they can check it when you get on the plane and have it available for you when you land. They don't normally let you bring a car seat on the plane... from my experience they have to be checked.
