I was a nurse on a busy pediatric unit and was exposed to and caught tons of childhood illnesses, and though I came home and nursed my son every morning, he never came down with any of the stuff I got! Your body makes antibodies (very quickly, actually) for all of the stuff you are exposed to, so you give immunity to your little one. Even if you're sick by nursing you're protecting your little one from either getting what you have, or getting as severe a case. You do want to make sure that any medications you take are safe for your baby though, which is easily accomplished by calling the nearest hospital with a lactation consultant, talking to your doctor, or your pharmacist. Good luck to you! Hope you feel better soon!

Akia, fact is you can breastfeed while sick. The baby won't catch what you have because of the anitbodies and nutrients in the milk.

Yes you can still feed with absolutely no harm to your baby. I picked a terriblre tummy virus from my toddler while I was still brest feeding my newborn, nothing was passed on to bubs :)

In general too there isn't very much that needs to interfere with your breastfeeding. But do talk to your pediatrician about any medication you are taking, or if you get mastitis. Keep up the good work...and your supply!

Yes! I read a LALECHE book on this and it shared that this is very good for your baby and your milk is not affected by your cold/flu symptoms! It will also help keep your milk supply up!

Yes, you can. I had the same thing happen and my son actually didn't get my cold because if it. Just make sure you check with the doctor to make sure any meds you might take won't effect your baby.

You sure can, it's actually better for your baby. Your baby might get a touch of what you got but you're body is building up antibodies to defend your cold and will pass those on to your little one.
