Yesterday, one of the higher ups in my husbands company came over for dinner, and my son who is normally pretty shy and wont even speak to someone he doesnt know was quite the charmer. I was at first quite surprised at how quickly Tyler warmed up to him, but what floored me even more was that the manners i have been trying to instill in him came out and shone through! It was yes please this, and no thank you or thank you left and right, I was amazed, and even more amazed when later that evening when my husband and i were relaxing before bed he mentioned to me that the gentleman who came over had paid our son, and us the biggest compliment (or one of the biggest compliments in this day and age!) He said that our son was by far one of the most polite and well behaved children he had ever met. Now i am trying to figure out a special treat for him, any suggestions??? I want one that is going to reinforce this phenomenal behavior, can anyone suggest and good books on the topic or maybe some other positive treat???

wow! That is awesome! You have all the bragging rights in the world! I bet all you wanted to do during that dinner was just hug him and kiss him! My son is pretty good with the thank yous, but I still have to say "what do you say?" to get him to say please. :)

Thats awesome, I use stickers as a reward for my son, he is 2 and it works great.

Congratulations on your little man with manners!  It's always so nice to know that all of our efforts as parents are not going in by the wayside and it just goes to show you that patience and consistancy pays off.  :) Kudos to you!

I am not sure I saw in your post how old your son was but keep in mind it does not take much to reward your little one. Just some praise by you on what a polite young man he was and how proud of him you are are enough but if you want to do more, little guys LOVE stickers. (I personally prefer stickers over a food reward) I know it seems simple but you can get a kid to do most anything for a sticker! When he is especially polite just pull out a "special" sticker and reward him with it, telling him why he is getting it of course. A toddlers main goal is to please you so a sticker will light up his world. You could also buy him a special book or something but that could get expensive, kids when rewarded tend to do their best to repeat the behavior so as to get the reward. Which is why they sell reward stickers for potty training or chore completion.  I say keep it simple.  The best thing you can do is tell him how proud of him you are and hug him.  Have fun and good luck!
