Pees on the Potty but WILL NOT Poop

I am having a real challenge getting my daughter to poop on the potty. She's just about 3 years old and has been peeing just fine for at least 6 months now (she even tells me when she has to go and/or takes herself to the potty!). But, it seems like she is really struggling with pooping on the potty. I don't know if she is scared to poop because of the way it feels, if she is worried that it is a "mess", she doesn't want to "see it", or whatever.... when I catch her trying to poop in her panties and put her on the potty, she screams and carry's on until she is nearly inconsolable. We have tried bribery, "poop-parties" (she poops at preschool and we make a great big deal about it), etc. Its getting to the point where she asks for a pull up so that she can poop. Anybody with suggestions on what worked for your kid?

Jessica ~ Thank you for your post. She LOVES yogurt so her poop is normal, most of the time. In fact, I am starting to think "Murphy's Law" or something... this morning, when I was in the shower, she kept yammering for a pull up. I told her that she didn't need a pull up anymore and that if she needed to go, she should sit on the potty. Then I just ignored her and finished my shower. She decided to sit on the potty all by herself and then she POOPED!!!! Yay! Needless to say, we had a poo-poo party dance! I hope this is a turning point. If it isn't, I like your idea with your son. Seems very effective! :)

This part has always come last for my children.



First of all is her poop normal? My daughter did the hiding thing and pooped in weird places but she would wait till the last minute because it hurt her so bad. Once we got her stools regular and soft she started going on the potty ok.



My son was a struggle he would hide and go in his pants every time but pee in the toilet. Finally I started showing him every time he messed. He didn't like to take the time to go potty but once I found him messy it took him even longer to clean up. He finally got sick of having a shower a few times a day. And when I showed him I would say we wouldn't be doing this if you would just poop in the toilet.
