I really need all the help I can get, my 22mo daughter has had a bad cough for three months... she has had ear infections, and fever and it seems like she is on and off the common cold. We are at the doctors office every two weeks or so, she has been on three different types of antibiotics, and other medicines and nothing seems to work. She doesn't have a dry cough that would make me think these are asthma or preasthma symptoms, but I'm sure there are other moms that know better.

Please help!!!

Push getting into an ENT - they are the only ones that are gonna know what to do if anything...

I'm curious to hear the replies... my daughter is going through the same thing. Ear infections, a recent "eye infection" and her cough has been on and off for a long while now... doctor just seems to look in her eyes, ears and throat and say ohh she has an ear infection.

Have you considered getting a second or third opinion? When my son was 3 months old, his doctor said that he just had a chest infection and prescribed an antibiotic (I think - he's 12 yrs old now). After a couple of weeks of still hearing the congestion in his chest, I brought him to another doctor who suggested he might have pneumonia. Long story short, he did in fact have pneumonia. My point - see another doctor for another opinion.

My daughter caught a cold at age 4 months and it lasted for a good 2 1/2 years. In her case, it turned out that she did not make two of the four immune factors. Sometimes people start to make them later in life, but she is 19 and still doesn't make either IgA or IgM. Our solution was to put in tubes, to protect her hearing, work really hard at sanitizing the house, and put her on prophylactic antibiotics.

There are a number of reasons that your child might have a cough for a long time. Your doctor needs to explore some of them or refer you to someone who can.

My son had a lot of what seemed like cold symptoms all the time. I could not figure out what was wrong with him. He had a nasty cough and runny nose for month and months. After no relief from meds or antibiotics, I tried the only other thing I thought would be bothering him. His food. some of the symptoms of milk intolerance and allergies mimic cold symptoms. I don't know about ear infections but just a thought. Hope your little one gets better soon :)

My son has had an ear infection 14 of the past 17 weeks. 5 rounds of antibiotics but also a puffer (Flovent). He doesn't have a dry cough, rather a very raspy one. The puffer clears any inflammation he has from the ear infection, sometimes the infection can work it's way to their chest and cause terrible coughing spats. I would recommend being referred to an ENT but in the mean time getting your doctor to prescribe Flovent (the orange one)!! It has helped my son drastically with his bad cough...
