Hello there,

I have a 16 month old daughter who doesn't like to keep her diapers on... so i take that as a hint shes interested.

I put her on the toilet and all she does is cry.. i'm a first time mom so i dont really know what to do when it comes to potty training.

is 16months to early?

I was told by my pediatrician when I had my first, to start introducing the potty around 2 but not to expect a child to be potty trained much before three. My oldest was potty trained before three and my younger daughter is three and is still hit or miss. I think all kids are different. I do think they demonstrate when they're ready, by telling you they're wet etc. I think at 16 months, it is more likely shee just doesn't want to wear her diaper. Its pretty natural for kids to want to run around naked. It sounds like, if she cries on the potty, she isn't ready. You're asking all the right questions! Keep up the good work.

16 months is a little young. A child doesn't accualy gain control of their sphicter (the muscle that starts and stops the pee and poop) until 18 months. It's normal for a child to not want to wear their diaper and take it off. But if you want to introduce the potty at this age is fine. You should by a small potty though because the big botty is pretty scary when you are bearly taller then it.

My daughter was potty trained at about 2 which a little faster then most kids but i was also pregnant with my son at the time and told her then when mommy had the baby that it would be wearing diapers and she figured that it was time that she started wearing panties and using the potty like a big girl.
