Should I be doing something different to teach the alphabet?

My daughter is 2 years and 8 months old. Should she know her alphabet? She just keeps telling me they are all "R"s. I have tried touch, listen, speak, sing, dance, and any other learning tool available. Should I be worried?

Thank you everyone. I like the responses that tell me their kid is around my daughters age and don't know them yet. It makes me feel better.
@Elaina - lol. Dora is a good teaching program, but man, I can't stand it! Those songs get stuck in my head. I let my daughter watch it though, how much do you let yours watch it? I always wonder how much is too much. I let her watch it before bed and when she wakes up, I have Netflix and there are hundreds of episodes, she would watch it all day if I let her ;)

My daughter learned her abc's before she was 2. i didnt really teach them to her. I would say she picked it up from cartoons. She loves to watch dora and she actually says her numbers to 10 in spanish and english from watching dora. one things i can say we are working on is knowing the letters in her name. not everyday but recently we have been writing her name on paper showing her what the letters look like. its just when your kid is ready I guess they will do it.

I think 2 year olds "should not" know alphabet. Some kids are exception to that and if you have one of those kids, then fine. But if you tried several aproaches and none of them helped, I'd say let it be - she is not ready. Try again in 6 months or so.

Every child learns at different paces. My son knew his alphabet before the age of two although I have no idea where he learned it from, my daughter on the other hand has better motor skills then her brother. She's 3 and she doesn't know her alphabet yet, just appreciate what your child can do and try not to stress too much about what other kids know or do that she doesn't.

@MW "Teaching" is incorporated into play time. It's not like I send her to her room with books to study and homework. But some kids "pick up" more things than others. I do let her explore her own world, but when we play with ponies, I say "the purple pony with diamonds".

Let her be a kid!!!! They should NOT know their alphabet this young. Stop "teaching" her and let her learn by exploring her world.
