My daughter is almost 2. I let her practice w/ regular cups of water at home. She also does pretty well w/ a lid and straw ... I just have to be careful she doesn't tip it too far.

We took our daughter off just after 3 but she could drink out of a regulat cup well before than we just put very little in it in case she spilled it and she has to have her cups that have stuff she likes because her sippies did to! Just depends on how well they do with a cup or use straw sippies or sports bottles to.

My little guy uses an open cup half the time and the Playtex cup (with the valve removed) mentioned below the other half - he's 17 months.

My daughter is 2 and she's using sippy cup for whloe milk and a cup with straw for her water. I also let her try drinking in a regular cup (plastic or glass) to let her feel and get use to it. But if we're out, like relatives house or a restaurant she uses the kids cup with a straw and she is fine. So just before they turn 3, she's ready for the regular cup but again every child is different.

I have been transitioning my day care kids at age 3, but honestly I am leaning more towards a 2-21/2 yr old transitioning. I find that after awhile the sippy becomes the new bottle.

My daughter has both a sippy and a straw. She will use the straw for water and juice and the sippy for milk. She is 17 months.

I think most people start getting rid of them around age 3. My daughter turned 2 in December and we're just starting to teach her to use a regular cup. I found that Playtex has this cup that looks like a coffee mug and it's supposed to help with the transition, but is still spill proof. The only flaw I've found is that if there is milk in between the valve and the spout it will come out, but that's the only "leaking" it does.
