My son is three and he sucks his thumb whenever he can find someones hair to play with or even a doll that has hair. Im am getting to be very annoyed with it because he will pull my hair out....Any advice ??

Wow, my little girl did the same thing! She ended up with one side of her hair that was shorter than the other...she would yank out a strand, wrap it around her thumb and suck on it. She would do this mostly at night when she slept and would wake up in the morning with a couple hairs wrapped around her thumb.

There were some weirdos who tried to tell me that she was stressed out or had an emotional disorder...but she has grown out of it and is just fine! I was more concerned about her balding spot than the thumb sucking and tried to divert her attention away from her own hair. Whenever I caught her sucking and twirling her hair, I would distract her with a toy or other object or just gently pull her thumb out her mouth and hand away from her head like it was no big deal...the more attention I drew to it, the worse it got. I got a few dolls with long hair and laid them in her crib with her at night...she pulled out their hair instead and she is no longer balding (haha). She still occasionally sucks her thumb...mostly as she falls asleep.

My pediatrician said that she would outgrow the hair pulling with the thumb sucking and that lots of children do both. He said not to make a big deal over it...that will just cause anxiety and make it worse. I bet your little one will grow out of it too, sooner or later. Maybe you could give him something else to bother other than hair...like a super soft blanket or stuffed animal...

Good luck!
