Toddler playing the Yes/No game. Grr!

My two-year old has a habit that is truly driving me nuts. She'll tell me she wants something, then when I give it to her she screams "No!" and throws a fit. I know it's not a language barrier issue - She'll specifically tell me she wants X, so I know I'm not just guessing wrong. She's definitely in a "No" phase, so maybe she really is just playing games with me to test her limits. Anyone else run into similar "yes/no" games?

It nice to see that others are going through the same thing. My 2yr 3mth old son does this all day. I don't remember going through it so much with my eldest daughter so it may be partly a personality thing as well. Some days it really gets to me but mostly i have a "take it or leave it" approach.

My daughter does that she'll get a can of spagetti O's and tell me she wants it I'll make it for her... I put it on the table and she tells me NO! ... It drives me crazy! but I've learned to just set it aside and when she wants something else not to give it to her and just give her what she wanted earlier and then she will just stop the no games :)

Yes we play this game all the time, and we also play the why game... it is quite fun sometimes and sometimes it is very annoying....my son also likes to point and whine and when we don't give into him pointing and whining he starts to throw a fit and screams at me

oh yeah. It's a test of boundaries. My daughter does the same thing. "Do you want your cup?" "Yea." Hands her the cup. "No!" lol. It's a phase that I'm hoping they eventually grow out of lol.

Oh my son constantly does that . His therapist said he is exercising his control and independence. It sure is frustrating
