All good advice.. starting over after 19 years. My one year old doesn't have the language yet, but I'm sure she knows something because she squats about half the time she goes in her diaper. I have been putting her on the training seat while I run the bathwater for her just so she gets comfortable sitting on the potty without any pressure.

It is still kinda earlier, my advice it just to take her every hour and have her try. After a while she will be proud of herself for being a big girl. It will get easier from there.

If she's ready she'll be able to verbalize or tell you by patting her diaper. Don't rush it. Do it at her pace. My daughter is 19 months and has had a potty since she turned 1. She started off just sitting on the potty and then she'd start say "bye-bye pee-pee" when someone flushed the toilet. Then she would start saying "mommy/daddy pee-pee potty." All signs showing that she understands what the potty is used for. As for knowing when she goes, she's not quite there yet. On days we can work with her on the potty we try to take her every hour to the potty. She'll usually sit there until she goes, but that can be about 20 mins. When she goes she makes this adorable face and says "ohh." I've started trying to help her connect that it's her pee-pee in the potty so I ask her who's pee-pee's in the potty and she's starting to answer me more consistently by saying her name. For now we put her in a pull up on days that we take her to the potty, but I plan on switching to cloth trainers so that she can feel herself go and then we'll switch to big girl panties. It's all trial and error. You'll find out what works best for your family. Good luck.

She will show you signs that she is ready. My son who just turned 2 said pee pee and patted on his diaper and we just sat him on the toilet and he went. After a weekend, he got the hang of it. However, he has yet to poop yet. He thinks farting is going. I wouldn't pressure it. If she is ready, she will tell you or give signs. I give him a sticker when he goes and washes his hands, etc.
