two year old preffering other people?

I noticed my two year old will push away from me if he hurts himself instead of letting me comfort him. He was playing in a little mall play area when he slipped and bonked his head. I ran to hug him and he pushed me away and kept hugging another mother that was right there. I stay at home with him and his baby brother and I give him tons of love and attention. I don't understand why he would reject me and want to get soothed by a stranger. Does anyone else have a similar experience or insight to this?

My son has always been really independent. I have a 4 month old and we just moved in the area so we don't get out often to socialize. He is super friendly to most people, only occasionally does he get shy. I noticed he never wants comfort after he hurts himself. However he will run to me when he is scared and he will show me affection. My husband believes that he maybe thought I was going to spoil his fun and take him from the play area. I really hope its not an attachment problem, my husband had some autistic tendencies at that age. I think I will bring it up to his pediatrician.

It could be an attachment disorder too. Maybe ask your ped? If it continues?

Usually at that age they are afraid of strangers.....that is odd. You may want to sit down and talk to him about the dangers of strangers. Not to scare him, but to explain that you go to mommy for help, not someone else you don't know. How often does he do this?
