Two year old suddenly stopped using potty

My 2 and 1/2 year old was doing really well with potty training. We started about 3-4 months ago and he has had several periods, when he would be dry for weeks, except for at daycare 3 days a week. At daycare, i don't think they always catch him saying he has to go, and sometimes he tells me their potty is "yucky." Otherwise, he's gotten used to using public toilets and everything, but for the past 3-4 weeks has been having a lot of accidents. My husband and I are starting to get frustrated, because sometimes my son can be in regular underwear for days and then have a day when he doesn't use the potty at all. What should we do? We've kind of thrown in the towel and put diapers on him. But I'm worried that after 3-4 months of working on it, we will be confusing him even more. To make matters more difficulty, my son knows that we are going to be having a new baby. Any suggestions?

we have my 3 1/2 yr old stepson every other week and for the last 2 months he has gone in the potty almost everytime hardly ever peeing or pooping his pants but the last week he came he didnt even try to use the potty or tell anyone he just went in his pants even if it was 10 min after we had just taken him and he went pee 10 min later he would pee his pants. i am 9 months pregnant tho but he has neer acted like me being pregnant has bothered him. could that really be the reason why? cause he goes on the potty at his moms house or are we just doing somthing wrong? cause he has a 2 1/2 year old sister she has been throwing horrible fits the last couple weeks and being very clingy but like i said he hasnt shown any sign of being upset about the baby

Thanks for the help. You know the next day, he started using the toilet again. I think you're right. We are trying to lay off for now and let it take it's course. Seems to help at home, but I haven't quite figured out what to do about the daycare issue.

I'm so sorry! But it does happen. I have 3 girls and it's happened here too, sometimes for no apparent reason. (In your case it MIGHT be related to the baby coming.) I would say you have 2 choices--choose what works for you. If you can tolerate the accidents (if you have wood floors, etc, not too bad to clean up), then forge on ahead, using underwear, being patient, continuing whatever rewards you were doing, but back off on the pressure. ("Why did you do that?" "When are you going to use the potty again?" etc.) IMO, this route will resolve the situation quicker. If you can't handle the messes, then switch back to diapers full time. At some point (sooner or later, only your son knows) he'll let you know he wants to use the toilet again. I don't know when you're due--it might not be till after the baby is here--but it will get better.

Good luck! It can be frustrating, I know. But hang in there.

A boy is easy, if you are prepared. When at home go with NO PANTS AT ALL ! Let him wee in the garden if it so pleases, and he will see the wee coming out, recognise the sensation, applaud it when he does it. Garden wees are for home time only MAKE THAT CLEAR, and LOOK FOR HIS signals also that he is going to wee, so when you are out, with pants on, you can see and say "wee time now, let's be a big boy (just like daddy) and go to the tiolet. trust me at 2 they want to be just like daddy.

me 5 yr old girl is bladder incontinent, 3 yrs of pmh physio etc, wet pants at school, I could go on but you are tired enough as it is, but establishing a good bowel pattern / routine certainly helps with dry days.

Good luck, let me know.
