My little boy is two and loves his bedtime stories. He loves Julia Donaldson's books - The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, etc. and likes anything with crocodiles and lions in it. Does your little one have a favorite book? I'm loving reading to my little one and would love some recommendations on ones to try next!

My kids LOVE Sandra Boynton!!! My kindergardener started learning to read on her books and my 2 year old loves to hear them. We like My Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs; Moo Baa LaLaLa, and Blue Hat Green Hat, Horns to Toes, and But Not the Hippopotomus :) Her books have something for all ages, just as entertaining for me to read as the kids...and amusing to watch as your children grow and start to 'get' the humour included in the books!!

Oh right and "I love you through and through". I don't remember the author, but it's a favorite too.

Anything by Sandra Boynton...by far the best children's author. Pyjama time, snuggle puppy, barnyard dance are just a few of the best ones.

Here in Canada we have a famous author who writes children's books (and has so for years): Robert Munsch. A lot of his stories involve making silly loud voices (which my 2yo loves to recreate!)

Recently discovered David melling books, my favourite is hugless Douglas (as my son gives me a big hug at the end of the book) and don't worry Douglas (my son strokes my face to check I'm ok when Douglas is upset!! So sweet). X

My son's favorites right now are any of the Tonka Truck books (especially the monster truck one), stuff with dinosaurs, dogs, cars, etc.... He also likes books about families like the "Little Critter" books and some of the books that we picked up to help him get used to the idea of a new baby brother coming along. Books with a rhythm to them are a big hit also. We read a lot of shel silverstein, the Dr. Seuss books and other poetry.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! So far I've bought barnyard dance, 5 silly monkeys, five minutes peace, aliens love underpants and chicka chicka boom boom (still waiting for that to be delivered tho!), I have to say they've all been a hit with my son. I'd been looking for supermarket zoo but couldn't find it until today when I was in a cheap bookshop and there it was £2, bargain!! Read it tonight and he enjoyed that too.

I've been looking for a pirate book but can't find any decent ones for his age, they all seem to be a bit old for him. He's loving disneys Jake and the neverland pirate so if any of you have any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks again!

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight , Where the Wild Things Are, and any interactive books. I bought a while back The 20th Century Children's Book Treasury and it's really nice. The index is color coded for what stories are appropriate for different ages and it has lots of classic stories like Madeline, The Story of Ferdinand, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Goodnight Moon, pictures books, long stories etc. The drawback is that it's a book for mommy to hold (regular pages, kind of heavy) and the pictures are smaller with multiple ones on a page so the child doesn't always know which one to look at while you're reading the story. But the stories available in it are great.

My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and she loves to read books. One of her favorite is The Napping House by Don and Audrey Woods. It's a classic and I strongly recommend it.

My little boys is 3 and his favourite book is the blue balloon by Mick Inkpen. Its a story book with flaps that you can pull out.You can read your child anything and they will be interested in it as long as it has pictures for example another book my son l loves is an encyclopedia about dinosaurs, obviously I don't read it word for word to him, but instead simplify it a bit! This is great though because he is exapanding his knowledge, he knows the difference between many dinosaurs and what a carnivore and a herbivore is. I think story books are brilliant as well for children as they help them to be creative and expand their vocabulary.

My daughter loves the Maisy books. They were her brother's when he was younger and we read them nightly with him as well. Her favorite is Where is Maisy? She also loves anything with moving parts, windows, doors, etc.

He really likes the books that portray his TV cartoon characters. Sad, yes, but if it gets him reading instead of sitting in front of the TV, it's great.
