What do I do when my 4 year old acts out physically? He screams, hits, punches, kicks, throws things

He seems to do it at random and I never know what will set him off. It is primarily directed to me and I just don't know what to do. It is at least once a day and can last for up to an hour. What do I do so he doesn't hurt himself, me, or my house? I'm at a loss!

I agree, start with the family Dr, who might set you up with a theapist if there is nothing physical wrong, good luck, raising kids is not easy

it could be many things, my suggestion is take him to your pediatrician and rule out anything medical talk to the dr. about the situation and he then can check for issues it could be that he doesn't know how to tell you he is feeling lousy and so because you are mom and should be the fixer of everything it is your fault hence the kicking and such......my son used to be that way for us it turned out that he had severe ADHD and ODD which was being affected by having to go back and forth from our house to dads.
