I'm so jealous of all of you...my son is turning 3 next week and still does not fall asleep until 9:30 - 10:00. He hardly will take a nap anymore in the afternoon and if he does it's usually late (1-3 pm) My two girls before him where the same way...they are like energizer bunnies...they go all day and then he's up around 7:30 Am

Our night time routine starts at any time between half past five and six o'clock.
After stories, song, cuddles and kisses they are in bed no later than half past six. Sometimes they are both asleep within minutes other times it may take them half an hour and a couple of reminders that it is bedtime.
If our children are still awake at 7pm I feel hard done by and I get cross lol ... but it is rare ... they wake up at any time between 06:15 and 7am ...

hi victoria, i would suggest cutting his nap shorter to an hour first then eventually stop it completely. also make a set routine for bedtime like dinner, bath, pj's and story in his bed then lights out and if he keeps getting up just keep putting him back in his bed, it will be real hard for a few days but he'll soon learn that your going to stick to it and he'll eventually stay in bed after his story, thats what i did with my 4yr old and 3yr old and they go to bed at 7 and never get out. good luck

6.30 bath, 7.30 asleep - up anywhere from 7, no naps right now. I would like her in bed at 6, but dh doesn't get home til 6 and wants to play of course. I'm not keeping her up later because we just get no time together and she just gets hypo.
Chivonne, I am so sorry for you - have you tried the no cry sleep solution for toddlers by Elizabeth pantley - saved my life

My just turned 2 year old has no naps goes to bed at around 10/11pm and wakes at 8am.
To answer another persons questions me and my husband don't get any time together what so ever and trust me it is seriously effecting our marriage. BUT we have tried everything and my son just isn't tired. Tired by half hour every night to bring it forward didn't work.
My HV was even out of suggestions. He is out with me playing or doing something all day and still not tired. It's not as if I have naps I can cut out either. It's very tough, and my and my husband are feeling is big time now. Im 22 he's 21.

My girls betime routine begins at about 7-7:30pm. then they are both usually asleep by 8pm, My 2 year old is usually always asleep by this time. My almost 4 year old sometimes wont be asleep untill 8:30..I definately think 8:30 is a cut off for them. they usually wake between 7 & 7:30

My 2.5 toddler goes to bed between 9pm and 10pm, he usually wakes up between 7:30am & 8:00am, however I feel that 9/10pm is way past what his bedtime should be, and we will have to start working on getting him to bed earlier (to prepare him for either me going back to work or for him to start preschool) , ideally 8 pm would be bedtime, but it's easier said than done.

Ours go to bed between 7 and 8pm. They wake up between 6 and 8am. So it's fine. It's up to you what time you want them to go to bed. I know parents that don't put their kids, 2 and 3 year olds, to bed until 9 or 10pm or later. Then the kids sleep in really late.

My 3 year old daughter hasn't take a nap since she was 2 until last week. Now she'll take her naps around 2 when Daddy leaves for work. I usually have her in bed between 9 and 10 but tonight she begged me to go to bed around 7 but I had to keep her up until 8 or she would have been up around 9 or 10 ready to play. She also has night terrors so I run on very little sleep. It doesn't matter what time I put her to bed or when I go to bed. She's usually ready to go for the day around 9 or 930 because of her rough nights.

My son is 21 months. He goes down for bed by 8pm every night, and is usually asleep by 8:15. We eat dinner at 7, and wind down after that. He wakes up around 7:45 every day. Sometimes he wakes up earlier or later. He takes one nap after lunch. He gets two hours for his nap. This schedule seems to be working for us for now. He is starting to fight his naps, so I'm not sure how much longer he will take them.

Because I work late my 3 year old daughter
goes to bed around 9, she has to have a DVD put on,or else there's tantrums. But it does relax and wind her down. We have a story then, and she's out for the count around 10.30. She's up then bout half 9. Feel guilty about her going to bed so late, and I'm dreading her starting nursery. Worried she will be too tired.

My 16 month old goes to bed between 7:30pm and 7:45pm... I know he isn't 2 yet like the OP asked but hey, he is getting close. :) He is up at 6:30am Mon - Fri and 7:00am on weekends, most times.
My daughter (13.5 now) went to bed at pretty much the same time as my son at that age...

My son is a very active toddler.. Usually he doesn't go down until like 10-11 pm. He usually doesn't wake up until 9-10am! I had him scheduled like that for when he was a baby because of my work schedule and my mom was watching him while I worked, and it kind of just stuck that way.. LOL

7:00 pm. It really came out of my husband and I needing some time to unwind at the end of the day, but before it got so late that we didn't get any sleep. Our 2, soon to be 3-year-old wakes up between 6:30 and 7:00 am. I have to note: he probably doesn't FALL ASLEEP at 7:00 pm. He tends to sing to himself for a bit when we put him down, though I don't know that this changes much when we put him to bed later...

You guys are so lucky! My 3-year-old son goes to bed at 8pm, so that he'll be asleep by 8:15-8:30pm. I have to turn all lights off and be very quiet until he'll fall asleep. He gets up the next day by 6:30-6:50am. If he takes a nap during the day, he won't fall asleep until 10pm or later! I've tried everything, but he just won't sleep longer than unless he had a very tiring day with lots of outdoor activities.

My 2y6mon and 3yr11mon both go to bed at 7, although my son (3yrs,11) often needs to go to the toilet around 7:45 and mucks around a bit so is often still awake at 8. I would like to put him to bed a little later but miss 2 would complain and she cant handle any later.
Miss 2 has a 1.5 hr sleep at 12:30 and mr 3 has a "rest" time for that time - reads on his bed and sometimes falls asleep

my 2 and half year old goes to bed at 930 and she gets up around 9 or 10. so it depends on when you want them getting up, i dont want her up real early so i found that 930 works best. and we have dinner around 6 so that gives her time to digest her food and get out some more energy and see family before bed.

My son goes to bed from 8:00-8:30 and he is 3. It really depends on your xhedule and his.Do you work? Does he/she need to get up early in the mornings? A 3 year old need anywhere from 9-12 hrs. My son is usaully fine with 11 sometimes 10 ..It all depends on how tired they are!..Do whats best for your family :)

All my kids go to bed at 8pm but it seems when they were younger, had no school and me being a stay at home mom they would be up at 10pm sometimes! Not that I liked it or wanted them to be but it was what it was...Even my 3 year old now can go to bed between 8p-10p. Depends on the plans for the next day. Though she also has stopped taking naps and doesn't have issues with crankiness, those would be factors as well...Whatever works for you is the best!

I try to aim for 7:30/8, it depends on my shifts and how long dinner takes (if it is on time or not) and then how long the shower takes after dinner and also how wound up she is although i usually make her lie down and watch a movie before bed and then i read to her or she reads to herself well looks through the book/s (she is 21months). and she will wake up about 2 or 2and a half hours after she goes to sleep and every 2 to 2 and a half hours pretty much till she comes to bed with us because with going to work 2-3 days a week and then doing the house and garden the rest of the week and with how demanding my partner is im buggered at night even though she goes to daycare 3 days a week

My daughter (she'll be 2 in May) goes to bed at 8:30 but she probably isn't actually asleep till 9. We don't have daylights savings time in Hawaii because we're close enough to the equator.
I debated an earlier bedtime (she used to go to bed at 7:30) but her dad works strange hours, and either doesn't get home till 11pm or gets home at 7pm. If I put her to bed at 6:30-7:30 she would literally only see her dad on Sundays.

My son is two and a half. He was going to bed between 10:30 and 11:30 (waking up around 10) and taking a 2-3 hour nap mid day. It worked for our family with my husbands schedule. Since his schedule changed we've had to revamp our routines. Trying to get him to bed around 7 or 8 and up at 6. I'm having a harder time adjusting than he is! lol He's dropped his nap now which sucks for me but was bound to happen eventually.

I'm with you Karen,, my daughter isn't even tired at 9:30 or 10 every night. Ever since we switched her to her toddler bed she won't go to sleep any earlier?!! So now she sleeps with me in my bed every night. But she doesn't have a real bedroom ,(we live with our in-laws ,so the dining room is her bedroom/playroom)..which makes it really difficult to keep her in her bed. She has to take melatonin every night just to wind down to go to sleep:( She also is Autistic so she is always full of energy all the time, lol . I call her the "energizer baby".She doesn't need the 10 hrs. of sleep (only 8 or 9 hrs.)and if she takes a nap during the day,she wakes up in the middle of the night and doesn't sleep through the night?!! So I don't let her take naps at all. Its crazy too, because she goes to preschool every morning so you think she would be tired earlier but no way ...no luck?!!!" = ) So she usually is asleep by 10:00 sharp ,after I give her melatonin at 9:30!!

Wow, mine are up late! I work second shift most nights so we can avoid the extra expense of daycare. I always have had my kids on my schedule, so they did/do not go to bed until 11pm or so. BUT they also do not get up until 10 or 11am either. I always figured what did it matter so long as they got the requisite amount of sleep. My oldest (almost 6) now goes to bed around 9pm and gets up just before 7am for school. My youngest still stays up with me at night because otherwise I would only get 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night between working and getting the oldest off to school. :)
