I have potty train 1 boy , 1 girl and now potty trainning my second daughter. My son, I potty trainned him at 3 years old. It was not easy. I started at 19months old and was off and on. I have read that for boy don't try untell 19months old and for girl you can start about 17months old. Some tips are first is he afraid of the potty if so have story time on the potty with everything on. When he is ok with that have story time with a diaper/pull-up on and a shirt. (Also I didn't like the little potty seats, I used a potty seat that sit on the big potty) When he is not afraid of the potty and he keeps taking his diaper off, go get the thick underwear. Yes he will pee and poo in his underwear, potty train is very hard.

When my son when pee he would think hey look what I did how cool and played in his pee pee. Now girl mostly will scream when the pee starts going down the leg and that is why girl are more willing to use the potty.

I would give my son a little treat when he when on the potty like a M&M and I would take him every 30mins to the potty if he didn't go then take him again in 10-15mins. After he understands all of this then have him start telling you when he needs to go and only give him a treat if he tells you. If you don't want to do a treat do a happy potty song for him and give High Five that worked with one of my kids.

Teaching him to pee standing, don't do this untell he gets the sitting part down. When you do this put cheerios in the potty for him, helps teach them not to pee everywhere.

You need to teach them to hold their pee and poo. What I did when he was 3 was for 2 days we sat and watch movies. He was wearing underwear and sat on my lap. He wouldn't pee on mommy (some kids will) I would also have him be drinking so after an hour he really needed to go and I would take him to the potty and then back to a movie did this for 2 days this really help him learn how to hold his pee and told him no more pull-up and after a week he was potty trained. I did use pull-ups at bed time.

Good luck

And don't give-up he will get potty train

I'm in the same boat. My son isn't potty trained yet and he's 3. I started encouraging him to go potty like a big boy when he was able to pull up and down his pants on his own. He may not be the best at getting them on or off straight but he will go spuratically for us. Just give it time and don't rush it b/c he will just refuse to go. If you think he's ready try using big boy undies
