My daughter is just over 11 months and I recently swithched her to whole milk. This is a problem because she is painfully constipated. I have put prune sauce and mixed it with the milk whick was a quick fix but two days later she will be constipated again. My doctor says o use whole milk and no other unless formula for the proper vitimans and such. What do I do?

A quick fix for constipation, and this was told to me by a nurse at the pediatrcian, is take a soft soap and cut a peice off, and use it as a suppository. Also the baby may be allergic to milk, so at one year have them test her. She may need soy.

Have you tried using lactose-free milk, Lactaid(R) or store brand? They need the fat of the whole milk so try the lactose-free, it should help with any stomach irritations. My kids have used lactose-free from the beginning, they can eat cheese and yogurt but regular milk upsets their stomachs.

use the formula now, there is Step Two or something like that by Enfamil, it has all of the nutrients they need. if she's lactose intolerant, she's going to continue to be in pain and it's not worth it, she can get her nutrients from formula. have the doctor test her for lactose and then work from there, in the meantime, put her on the formula. if her body can't digetst milk, then she's not getting the benefits of it anyway. you can always do half forumla-half milk and see if that eases her into the transition. my husband would give our 2nd daughter milk by mistake and it made her sick but when i did half-half, it worked. it's odd, but really at 12 months, boom, they can handle it better. anything before that needs to be an easy transition.

good luck!

My son is lactose intolerant, he can only handle 1 cup of skim milk a day.We buy orange juice and other juices that are fortified with calcium.

My daughter was like that for the first month after switching. I gave her milk all day and then her dinner drink was undiluted 100% white grape juice. I did this everyday and it kept her regular. kids this age need 24 ounces of whole milk a day.

Have you tried 2% milk and sometimes if they were on formula you might have to do the formula 2 it is for 9-18 months. My daughter had this prob. during her milk transition and has always been a little intolerant of milk. We just do 2% and had to cut her milk intake down but did not do this til she was 18mon. Hope this helps

Limit her milk intake to one glass a day. We had the same problem with my eldest son after he turned one. He loved milk so much he was constantly drinking and it constipated him. Now he gets one glass in the morning with breakfast and other types of dairy throughout the day.
