My almost 16 month old still doesn't sleep through the night. She's hit and miss. I try to put her to bed around 8:30 and she goes down pretty easily however sometimes by 10 she's woken with no binky, I put it back in and give her her favorite stuffed animal and she will fall back asleep but then 3 rolls around and she is AWAKE. I check/change her diaper but it's generally not that bad. I try to give her a bottle but most of the time she pushes it away she just wants to be held. I hold her until she falls asleep and put her back in her crib but as soon as I try to walk out the door she is up again. This is really causing stress in the house. I'm usually at work at 5 so when she gets up at 3 I don't go back to bed it's usually almost 4 when I put her back down and I go to work. However sometimes she doesn't go back down. My SO stays home with her during the day but he's grumpy and tired because he's up listening to her. Any ideas??? I need sleep!!!

You have to be firm with her and let her cry it out. She is waking to get you, its as simple as that. At 16 months she does not need feeding during the night or a nappy change. When she wakes go in place her dummy in her mouth and leave, no eye contact no voice. In and out. Then let her moan for 10 to 15 minutes go back in and do the same again. At the moment you are rewarding her with hugs and attention in the middle of the night so she has something to wake up for. If you take that away in time she will not bother to wake.

This method will take about 3 days to work so make sure you have some baby sitters on hand so you and your partner can get some sleep. Also reduce her day naps to one and a half hours morning and afternoon. This should make her a little more eager to sleep. Eventually you will stop the naps altogether around the age of 2 and she should be in bed at 7pm.
