He could have a viral infection in his mouth. I would watch it for a day, watch for any other signs, particularly fever, and call the pediatrician if it doesn't improve. Do you brush his teeth twice a day? When you do, check his gums. If they are nice and pink, it might just be something he ate but if they are grey or white, it's definately an infection. The really smelly diaper alone is probably just from something he ate or from teething. When toddlers cut new teeth, they drool a lot but as they get older, they swallow the drool which makes for much softer (and stinkier) bowel movements. However, the bad breath issue indicates a possible infection so I would definately watch it and call the doctor. Hope this helps!

Some foods have this effect on adults as well as children. For instance asparagus and a cereal called sugar puffs can cause this. Nobody knows why. Beetroot can actually turn your wee red! Give him plenty of diluted drinks to flush out his kidneys and there should be no problems at all. This is nothing to worry about unless it is occuring on a regular basis.
