Hi, my son is 2.5 now and I can't get him to eat. He likes chicken tenders, yogurt, fishsticks, apple sauce, cereal. I can't get him to eat regular chicken or any other meats, vegetables or fruits. Any suggestions?

My son is very picky too and just last night i was cutting up a little meat for his plate(which Is the hardest thing to get him to eat) and I didn't really pay any attention to the fact that i was cutting them into shapes, which is something he is learning about and pretty familiar with. Well He yells out square....rectangle....and he's all excited, so I went right along with him and tried to encourage his interest. It worked like a charm...he ate all his meat and wanted more. Then when it came to the corn(which I usually dont have a problem getting him to eat; howver this time I had over cooked it and it was mushy!) I simply identified it a "Little yellow squares"...and gulp...down the hatch went the corn !!!!!!!!! Also I would suggest letters and numbers or using cookie cutters for shapes or u can just cut the food into smaller shapes yourself if u want. Around this age is when a lot of kids are learning letters of the alphabet, numbers, colors and shapes.....so try to make meals fun and interesting to them....whatever is most appealing to them. Good Luck....I really think I've hit the jackpot here this time.

My 3 yr old son was like that when he hit 1. I recommend giving him vitamins and buying childrens ensure. Its plentyful with all the nutrients he will need for a missed meal. However, dont rely on it. Continue to give him his favorite meals, eventually he will grow out of the habit just like my son. :]]

Just keep trying...we went through the hot dog and mac-n-cheese phase lol I just kept making at least 1 thing he would eat but left it up to him to try something new...after a few months he was eating salads and anything that could be "dipped" in something...when they get hungry they will eat..Just hang in there and have patience

At dinner time I offer my 2.5 year old the same as us - smaller portion - we don't make a fuss about it. If she doesn't eat we still don't comment. My husband and I just eat and have conversations about the day. If she doesn't eat and gets hungry I say no you didn't eat your dinner. I will however give her a sandwich at bedtime, when we read her a book, so she will sleep without being hungry - only a sandwhich no other options and still no fuss. She sometimes eats some things one week but not the next. I made a decision not to give her the foods she likes every night as she figures I got away with that. I guess if they are hunngry they will eat. I have heard that children need to try a food so many times before they get a taste for it. I wouldn't suggest disguising food either. Hang in there - I am sure it will get better.
