3yr. old needs a colonoscopy :( any moms have advice??

My son has had a few bloody stools with mucus in it as well we have already seen the pediatrician and then the GI specialist no he has been scheduled for a colonoscopy on Tue. Morning. I have no idea how to prepare myself or him for such an event. I know he will be "under" and won't remember anything but he has to get an IV and for a day and a half before he can't eat or have milk(which he loves) I am just totally unprepared for this.....any moms out there that have experience with younger children and colonoscopys..(I hope not that many:( )

I have not had experience with this, but I wanted to let you know that my heart goes out to you and your son. I can't imagine. My best advise (mainly what I would try to do if I were in your shoes) would be to just prepare for a fussy child and just be the most understanding and loveable mom that you have ever been. I foresee a lot of holding him and rocking him. See if you can give him something to help him sleep during the time he can't eat or drink. Just a thought though, my step son and hubby has had colonoscopies and both of them were allowed to drink water and eat like Jell-O until the day of the procedure. Can your son do the same or are they saying no food what so ever? Anyway, good luck and I will be thinking about you both and praying that you both get through this without becoming too stressed and upset.
