Any ideas on how to get my 2 year old stubborn daughter to wear her hair up?

She refuses to have anything in it, not a head band, barrette, or hair tie. It is always in her face and drives me crazy, I have never cut her hair and I really don't want to but I am running out of options.. When I do get something in it, she pulls it out and says No. I know I am the mother, and she is the daughter, but this fight I have been unable to win!

Can you talk to her about a friend who wears her hair up? My 2.5-yr-old daughter didn't want to put her hair up either, until she decided to imitate a friend. Now we put 1-2 ponytails in every day; I let her decide how many. Sometimes her dad like to do more elaborate styles - he loves her long hair. And she gets to choose clips to go in, too. She has also learned that ponytails keep her hair out of her face when she's swimming, which is important to her.

When you do try to cut her hair, try a kid's salon. They have toys, cookies, special chairs, etc. Just do a simple trim, which will help with hair growth and health. It will go faster and let her experience it. Make a big fuss over her if she does well and reward her, so she'll want to do it again. Good luck.

I have a 6 year old who hates her up or anything in it, So I know what you mean. When she's ready you'll know. Then have fun.

Well this might sound a bit harsh, but it worked for my daughters temperament.  I had the double problem that even if I decided to cut her hair all off, she would have had to be strapped to a barber's chair and sedated for a hair cut to take place.  Not wanting to subject a poor hair stylist to that, I knew I had to do something!  It was always in her mouth, which would make her freak out!  She seemed to think the barettes would hurt no matter how much I tried to tell her otherwise.  So after about 4 months of trying... I finally told her one day that she was going to wear barettes.  And if she took them out, I would put them back in.  Even if it we did it all day long.  So for about 15-20, we went back and forth.  I'd put them in, she'd pull them out.  I finally got them back into her hair, gave her a pacifier and her blankie, pulled her onto my lap where I held her arms down around her blankie so she couldn't pull her barettes out and very soothingly calmed her down and told her to feel the barettes... "see they don't hurt.  It hurts more to pull them out."  It worked and it has worked every day since.  I felt bad at first, but no one got hurt and now... I can do intricate french braids and she waits patiently until she can go check 'em out in the mirror.  Good luck!

No. My one daughter will not wear anything in her hair. My other daughter loves braids and clips etc. You really can't fight it.

I had the same trouble with a couple of my girls.... and i hate to say it but we did have to end up cutting it..not real short but short enough that it could be styled with out ponty tails or braids! she will more than likely grow out of it i know my 8yr old has slowly she'll now use headbands and barretts but still now hair ties!
