I got sick of cleaning those stupid sippy cups! Plus we would leave them places like the car or friends homes etc. so I refused to buy anymore and now she only has one. she only gets it when we leave the house. I started giving her a big girl cup with meals around 18 months. Only some of the time at first then more frequently as more cups disappeared into thin air. She ALWAYS eats in her high chair so it didn't matter if she spilled. now she gets a big girl cup and has been for about 2 months even out of the chair and she is cool with it. Only spills once in a while.

My daughter was just a little older than 2. I started by letting her drink from a cup at mealtimes, but a sippy with water any other time. Then I gradually gave her a reg. cup with water to have sitting in the living room. Now she asks for a drink when she wants one and it comes in a cup. :-)))) good luck.

I would say somewhere around 3. When they're old enough not to spill a real cup, too often anyway. You could try it anytime and see how your child does with being able to not spill. Just remember to start with small amounts in it so he doesn't tip it up too far like he does with a sippy cup.

i took my lil boy off the sippy cup when he was 2 1/2 because he always wanted to sleep with it like a bottle and it wasnt good for his teeth, plus it cause him to wet the bed at night. so now i've convinced him that hes a big boy and that big boys use cups like mommy lol
