constant cold

My son constantly seems to be catching a cold. I can't even remember how many he has had so far this winter. He eats a ton of fruit everyday (especially clementines) so I wouldn't assume he is lacking the necessary vitamins to keep his immune system strong. I do expose him to alot of other children ( every week he has gymnastics, and occaionally we go to an indoor playground near our house) but my daughter (5years) is exposed to those same environments and she is also in SK, and rarely ever catches a cold.

Fortunately he is a real tropper, and the colds don't bother him too much, but does anyone else have the same problem, or have any suggestions that may help.

I would still give the acidophilus a go just to boost his immune system especially since you say he is exposed to alot of other children - vitamins play just one part in overall health.  The only other suggestion I have is to check out his adenoids.  A friends son was always sick too with colds and sore throats and larger than normal adenoids were the cause.

thanks....I'll check that out :)

Have you tried probiotics?  If your son has ever been ill before, or been on anti-biotics alot of the good bacteria in his system will be gone and he'll have a poor immune system.  After our daughter had an ear infection (and anti-biotics) she seemed to be weaker and had a constant sniffly nose.  I've had her on kids acidophilus daily since then and no sickness.

I've actually been pretty lucky with him (knock on wood) not having anything other than colds. He is a pretty healthy kid otherwise.

Are you sure its colds? My daughter was sick for 2 months straight. It seemed like she caught colds back to back to back. It was awful. The doctors said it was colds, sinus infections, teething...you name it, they said it. But nothing they suggested helped her feel better. Eventually, one of the doctors suggested it could be allergies, and prescribed zyrtec, and voila! All the symptoms disappeared. We're not sure what she's allergic to, but I keep zyrtec on hand now if she starts feeling yucky. I'm not sure how old your son is, but my daughter was 12-14 months old when we dealt with that, and at that age, unfortunately, the only was to tell the difference between a cold, a sinus infection, and allergies is how long they've been sick for.
