Constipation and Miralax

I have not used it on my son but I am a nurse and know LOTS of kids who are on it long term with no side effects. I believe the reason it says only to take for 7 days is because if the problem is lasting longer than that, you need to contact your ped...which you have obviously already done.

I gave my son Miralax for constipation for several months. It was very effective, and didn't cause any trouble when we stopped it. I think it works by pulling more water into the intestines so the stool will be softer. Our pediatrician also told us that long-term use is safe.

I think Miralax is perfectly fine to take every day. My daughter used to have issues and we had to give her Miralax for over 6 months. If we didn't give it to her for a few days, we were right back where we started. However, she has now been off of it for at least a year and I have seen no problems thus far.

can u not use lactlos this si natural suger solution , speak to the doctor again and , air your concerns, although ia m sure your doctor knows what he is doing , my son has many bowels problems and he has to take suppositarys and laclose solutiosn for life so i dont see why a few weeks woudl ahrm your chils , x

hi i have a 3 years ols some with many bowel problems, the best thing you can use to help soften your childs stoold is lactlose it is a natural sugar siolution canot over dose, i woudl suggest trying 5mls at first and if it doesnt help over a 12 hour perios repeat , you can buy this from any chemist hope this helps ,staceyx

Hi! My daughter is just over 2 and wasn't constipated, but had rock solid bowel movements. It was a saturday and she had a little dab of fresh blood from it being so hard. I was going to get her pedialax, but the pharmacist suggested Miralax. She told me she gives it to her kids when they have a hard time. She suggested Miralax (only about a half teaspoon in 8 oz of warm water) because she said since she can go, but has a hard time, this will soften her. Whereas the pedialax will make her go. They also said to give her warm water to drink as it should help. Well let me tell you! We gave it to her on Saturday night around 7, and the next morning she had a hard movement again. But the pharmacist said only once per day, so we decided to wait until 7 again that night to give her the next dose. Thank god we did 'cause it really loosened her up. Without being too descriptive, it was up her back! I cut out white breads, and only give her whole grain gold fish for snacks, whole grain breads for sandwiches (they said she probably wasn't getting enough fiber), etc. and she's been pretty good since then. Yo may not need to give it to her for that long. Hope this helps!
