Do you buy name brands?

If you mean stores like Abercrombie and Aeropostale then yes. I do love name brands because the clothing is much better quality than cheapo walmart. Really, the only things I will get from walmart are makeup, food, and last minute birthday gifts. I am probably the only mom out there that would prefer great quality clothing over a cheapo price and quality shirt any day.

I don't really look at the brand, but I do have my favorite stores to shop at specially for my son because we all know every store has more girl clothes, really erks me! so my favorite stores are Burlington Coat Factory, The Children's Place, Target, and Old Navy. Also garage sales rock!

Cheerios is the only name brand I ever really stuck to. I read the labels and some of the off brands actually have less sugar, no high fructose corn syrup...etc. I read the label on the back more than the name on the front. That's for food. For clothes for baby---carters just washes up so well and wears well, too. I try to get that because it's not too pricey for what I get, but usually clothes are hand me downs, garage saled or goodwill bought.

I buy different kids. I get hand me downs, wal mart clothing, family dollar, thrift stores and things like that. I have gotten many named brand outfits for my daughters but I got them at thrift stores and the prices are so affordable and you would be surprised at how nice the clothes are. But I look at this way, kids play and get messy so eventually the clothes can be ruined so my kids have play clothes and nice clothes. Clothes have gotten a little bit more expensive here lately but when you bargain shop you will be surprised at the nice things you find for very affordable prices!

Diapers and wipes i buy name brand. Clothes I get at a gently used store (sometimes still has the tags on but costs about 10% of original cost) food i always read the labels and most of the time the name brand stuff is better for you so that's what i get

I shop at yard sales and from bags of people's kids old clothes. There are usually pretty nice things and you would never know my daughter gets mostly free clothing. We do spend money on things like shoes but make sure that her shoes are shoes that are going to be won often. For example, we bought $12 brown boots at walmart and she wears them with almost every outfit or she will wear her pink/white tennis, that's it. she has 2 pairs of shoes. She does get name brands like Koala Kids, Gap, Children's Place, etc from my mom and the neighbor who has lots of $ to be spending but other than that, she is a hand me down wearing baby.

She did have a pottery barn crib that I got second hand and Lambs & Ivy bedding that was also second hand, her pottery barn bassinet was also a hand me down as well as the bedding for that. Her toys are hand me downs, except for a select few from birthdays and last xmas....i dont buy much for my baby. lol

i buy cheap clothes in england its asda george or primark but i dont go to primark. i but brand stuff for food cus my son fussy he will only eat heinz beans he can only have heinz ketchup others bring him out in rash etc. n he can oly have pampers active fit n johnsons wipes cus tthe other made him have a horriable rash bad enough to send the health vistor out without me knowing she was coming.

if my children have 'named brands' it is because they have been brought for them from grandparents or other family, and we use them for best or weekend wear... they are daycare children and don't need to be dressed in fancy stuff, they need to be kids after all... The only branded item I really buy is the nappies, as the cheaper brands cause problems with their skin...

both. what do you mean by name brands though? Like... designers? Or just like specialty kids stores? I shop at the Children's Place and H&M and Old Navy and that sort of thing more often than I shop at Walmart, simply because the clothes fit better, and are better quality, and can be sold or given away easier later.
thats not to say she doesnt own anything from walmart, or that I dont appreciate it when someone gets her a gift from there...

to add to my previous response...
I do buy name brand training pants (my two and four year old boys are both potty trained but the two year old still uses training pants at night) because I don't believe in putting chemicals on my son's sensitive areas. It's probably a brand few people have heard of, Seventh Generation. We also buy Seventh Generation toilet paper, tissues and paper towels (although we rarely use them).
I use name brand soaps, too. We use Method for baths, floors, toilets. We use Charlie's Soap for clothes, dishes and general cleaning. Both of these Name Brands are biodegradable and safe for the environment. I am willing to spend the extra money to make my home chemical-free.
As far as medicines, we tend to avoid them but we have some store brand fever reducer. We do use Neosporin but that's just because someone gave it to us.

I usually avoid the name brand stuff for several reasons; the main one being that it creates a culture of "stuff" and makes kids feel that thier self-worth is tied up in what they're wearing. Silly, but true.
I buy from nicer stores, like Sears, because they have a guarantee that if the clothes wear out before the child outgrows it then the item will be replaced with the same or a similar item. (as long as it's the same size). I have been known to pick up a thing or two at Target.
I really haven't noticed any difference between wearability of "name brand" clothes and "off" brand. All the clothes I've bought have lasted through two VERY rough boys.

Well I do tend to buy brand names for my 4 year old son, generally because there better quality plus my son is having a major growth spurt, as far as the under garments I get them anywhere heavyweight coats I buy brand name because they keep my son warmer then the coats I buy for the spring, for example I bought a snorkel coat yesterday at forman Mills for 40.00 pockets everywhere to keep the wrestling men inside and out, this coat was regularly priced at 115.00, and when I put it on my son he wanted to take it off because he was quote: Mommy I'm hot! lol

I too look for trusted brands and pays more so that I needn't worry unnecessarily. This is especially so when it comes to food/drinks. Since my son goes to daycare, I also tend to want to make sure (as far as financially able) that he does not lack the material comfort of his classmates.

Clothing wise I'm very guilty of buying name brand.. Half the time it's getting it either used of Ebay or from a child's resale store. Or I'll wait for it to go on sale.. She actually stays in sizes for quite awhile so we get good use out of all her clothes. Food and everything, I usually go with the store brand because most things are just as good at a fraction of the price. There are some things that aren't as good though. And for diapers, my daughter wears Pampers. Store brands don't work right for her.

I don't go out of my way to buy brand names. If I find a good deal on them then I'll buy. I've noticed that most brand names are not any better then the cheaper clothes, they tear the same and wear the same. I have bought brand new both brand names and cheaper and was surprised to find that they faded in the wash and fit just the same.

Hi! I used to buy name brand w/ my eldest daughter (now 16) and w/ my twins. After 3 older girls, I got smart w/ my son and we usually buy the store brand stuff. lol If I really, really like the name brand then I'll buy it. However, there were certain items I couldn't be cheap on. One were diapers. W/ my twins we used a diaper service but when we used disposable diapers, we bought Target since they didn't take well to Huggies for some odd reason. W/ my eldest we bought Huggies. With my son we bought Pampers. The same goes for wipes, shampoo and baby shower, I bought name brand. I also buy name brand shoes. Something about the shoes! lol

I buy alot of name brand stuff like pampers n enfamil
i kinda go a little crazy on shoes for my kids , sometimes their shoes are more expensive then mine, like Adidas, Nike, Puma, Converse , i don't know i think there just so cute . but i also buy store brand comfy clothes or P.Js . Alot of my food is name brand but sometimes it doesn't matter if its store brand . Im not rich or anything but we get by with those little extra things

When my son was first born I bought name brand everything, Now that he is 2, he is lucky if he gets something name brand unless I get it at a retail store. The best place to shop for clothes is Kid to Kid. They only sale clothes that are nice and stain free and are cheap. Diapers are another thing.. my son can only wear huggies and pampers, all the other ones break out his little booty.

It depends what I'm buying. If I'm buying something specific (birthday outfit, christmas outfit, etc) I'll go to Baby's R Us or something and get a really nice outfit. For the most part, though, I get the majority of his clothes from Savers (second-hand store). I've never spent more than $2 on a pair of pants or a shirt there, and a LOT of the stuff there is name brand and really good quality. I don't know what you're feelings are on second-hand clothing, but after a good washing in some hot water and oxyclean they're good as new. I figure he's probably going to get dirty at one point or another, and he's going to outgrow these clothes so quickly I just don't see the sense in spending a lot of money on clothes that just aren't going to last long enough to be worth what was spent on them. $2 I don't care if he ruins it in a day! Lol

I buy whats on sale as far as clothes go.. And if it's cute i'll buy it I don't care what the brand is.. I do buy a lot of Carter's though.. and my kids always look cute! Formula and diapers are namebrand because my formula is on wic and my daughter gets a rash from any other kind of diapers besides Huggies. As far as shoes go we go to Target, Payless or Walmart.. This year though we are going to spend a little extra on a nice pair of Nike's for our 2 year old. We do shop consignment stores but not too often.. My daughter's clothes last her over a year or more so she gets a lot of good use out of them!

Now shoes are the one thing that really matters. You can't get some cheap shoes for your kid, especially mines who is 15 months old and very hard on shoes. She's been walking since before 9 months and when I would get the cheap shoes she would tear them up by the 2nd or 3rd week of the months. Shoes have to have support and be very kid friendly. So I have to agree...name brand shoes for my baby.

I too shop the clearence racks at all name brand stores. Mainly because my daughter is so petite, Gap and Children's Place are the only pants that fit her.... I am also a huge fan of Target! When she out grows her clothes, we always donate them. I am a shoe snob so to say as I buy stride rite, Nike or any show that is good support for her feet. Those tend to be pricey but I look for deals as much as possible. I also read reviews on shoes...

I've never been a fan of the walmart diapers ... the food isn't bad though. I think the bottom line is that it really depends on what you're buying and what your kid likes. I'm with the lady that said the walmart wipes really didn't cut it... my daughter hated them and so did I. I always went with Huggies. We could use any of the diapers but the only ones that we found not to leak was the Luvs. Food though, I think it's perfectly fine to buy generic food. We did a lot of times .. but there were some things we just didn't buy generic. I'm not a big fan of generic mac and cheese ... it's Kraft or nothing... but that's a personal preference. Now my husband says he's fine with the generic stuff but I always had issues with it.

yes I have a friend who will only buy name brand clothes for her baby. I brought over a whole bag of clothes my 15 month old cant fit anymore. She look through all of them and only considered a pair of name brand capris that were in the bag. I thought to myself....wow. I too, buy whatever i think is cute on my little girl. She doesn't care about names and neither do I.

yes Parent's Choice sucks! Try Target's up & up brand. It's very much comparable to pampers. My baby also had problems with Parent's Choice brands. I would never recommend them to anyone.

I actually started trying out off-brands and have found that Target's brand up & up and walgreens brand work really well. I don't have to spend the money I used to on brand names. Just yesterday I bought a box of 124 diapers from target, up & up brand for $19.99. Thank Goodness!

I say about 80% of the things I buy are store brand items. For clothing it varies greatly, there are so many stores like AJ WRight, Burlington, and what nots that I get alot of brand name clothing for cheap cheap! I LOVE Wal-mart diapers and wipes, never had an issue with leakage or breakouts with my son, however my daughter could only wear loves when she was a baby.

For me it depends on what we're buying... Diapers.. NAME BRAND ... those generic ones just didn't cut it with me. Clothes... I'll buy whatever I find at the right price that I think is cute. Brand Name clothes could warrant problems later in life when your wonderful teenager is demanding the $120 pair of jeans! As far as food goes though, I tend to buy brands because they're actually cheaper if you use coupons. If you get into coupon clipping you can save a fortune on the things you want and get the name brands you desire.

When shopping for my girls I usually will go with the name brands unless the price is significantly less on the store brand and the material/ingredients/quality is comparable to the name brand. Once I bought some store brand wipes and immediately saw the difference in quality. And then there was the time I bought some storebrand bottle liners from Walmart (Parents Choice) and once I got them home and was about to use them noticed they weren't BPA Free. Needless to say I did not use them, returned to the store the same day and got my usual name brand liners (Playtex).

My son is 3 1/2 now. When he was a baby I used to only buy Name Brands or products I really trusted. Now that he is older I mostly buy non name brands but from a store that I trust for quality like Target's brand. When It comes to food I look at the ingredients of the off brands and compare them to the Name Brands, also I only buy food from stores I trust for quality like Safeway or The Market.



What really matter's to me though is the quality of the product I am buying and using. I have found that sometimes the off brand is better than the name brand or the exact same or vice versa. Then once I find something that I love using I stick to it. I only use Gain because it really works and it smells great and the price is not bad either. I only use Target brand makeup remover, it is fantastic and I buy the cheapest milk because it all comes from the same place. Clothing though I have a tenancy to buy name brand but for a really good discount. I believe in quality over quantity, yeah I could probably buy 3 pairs of shoes at Walmart for the same price of the 1 pair I bought at Macy's, but I will end up spending the same amount in the long run buy the time they wear out and I have to replace them over and over.

I buy walmart mostly but we LOVE garage sales. Toy wise I am not to terribly picky because all in all it all made the same way and with the same products. Food wise I buy what I can for as little as I can but there are some things I won't compromise on. I look at the nutritional value on all the products and go by that.

I buy some name brand like carter's, osh kosh, stuff like that but i go to target and Jc Pennys a lot also and walmart sometimes! Just depends on what i think is cute but i wouldnt spend a large amount on one item of clothing just for my kids to tear them up!

I actually buy name brand clothes second hand. I go to Once Upon a Child (a gently used kids store) to do most of my shopping for clothes and toys. Since babies and toddlers usually outgrow their clothes faster than they can wear them out, the clothes are in great shape but for way less!!



I only bought name brand diapers (Pampers Swaddlers) until my son was in size 3, but now I just buy the Target brand. It just really depends on what the item is. Sometimes it pays to spend more money and sometimes it just doesn't matter.

It really depends on what it is. I buy name brand cheese because the fillers in the store brand not only taste bad but add a poor melting factor to the cheese. However I do by the cheep store brand cereals, but let's face it cereal is over priced to begin with. I have been getting the brand name diapers recently but I prefer the Kirkland brand at Costco, we just don't have a membership.

As for clothes, I get most of my daughters at a consignment store. I haven't bought clothes for myself in over 3 years. I agree with Vicki on the toys, I'd rather spend more on a toy that will last.

I rarely choose brand name clothes for myself or my babe. I don't need a label to know an item of clothing is good or not, I can tell that by looking and feeling the fabric! I love finding op shop bargains. I knit and sew, love making clothes but never seem to have enough time. I use generic brand medicine, the ingredients are identical, so why pay more? I find the brand name toys are crappy plastic so why bother? The only thing I have found i choose by brand name is disposable nappies. We use cloth mostly but disposables sometimes and found the cheap nappies didn't work well.

I don't bother with most name brands. I buy almost everything store brand or labels (including medicine, formula, diapers, etc.). I haven't found the additional cost of the name brands are worth the additional cost. I also buy almost all my kids' clothes at resale -- they grow out of everything so fast there is no point spending a lot of money on their clothes!!

Personally, I don't really care about whether it is a brand name or not when I buy clothes for my liitle one. I care more about the style. I could try different brands on him to see whether the color and style fit him or not. For food, I buy brand name.

I buy a little bit of both. Don't get me wrong I love the name brand stuff but if it's really expensive than I usually just go with the store brand. I do shop at resale shops too. But if I have the money for it and I know I'll be ok I'll splurge a little on the more expensive brand or I'll buy more with the store brand. I guess it really all depends on what it is.

I have 5 kids, ages from 17mo to 10yrs, so I try to go cheap!!! Especially diapers and baby wipes. I do buy the J&J baby lotion because the store brand has more water in it. But as far as food like bread, milk, eggs, mac& cheese, ketchup, frozen veggies, meat, chips, and all of that, it's store brands. As far as clothes go I buy all kinds, Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl's, second hand, and lots of hand-me-downs!
