Hello my son (who is about two in a half) wont eat certain foods and other days all he wants is junk food or doesnt want to eat at all. Any ideas on what i can do to get him to eat or get him to still get the nutrition that he needs at his age?

I agree with Louise. If he's growing well don't worry about it too much. If you're concerned you could try seeing if he'll drink some of those flavored nutrient drinks they make for kids. Can't think of the names of them sorry! As he get's older his food palate will change and he'll eat more things.

I would say, if he wants junk food a lot, don't have it in the house. If it's not there, you can't give it to him and let him choose something else instead. If he likes any sort of fruit or vegetable, keep it in stock and let him go to town on them! There are days that all my daughter wants to eat are grapes, or strawberries, or cheese sticks! lol Mostly I can get her to eat more balanced than that these days but some days she falls back on her old faves and let her so long as they're good for her. If all you have in the house is stuff that's healthy for him then he'll learn to ask for those things instead.

I know it is a nightmare. My daughter is just the same.It came as quite a shock when I have had two boys that would eat anything to a daughter that wont eat alot of things. All you can do is offer the foods that he likes as healthily as possible and encourage him to eat other foods regularly.

I have found that my daughter is more willing to try things off my plate then for me to put them on hers. She likes chicken nuggets and chips as her favourite foods and I do give in once a week and allow her to have them but the chicken nuggets are made from 100% chicken fillet and the chips are baked and sometimes sweet potatoe and not just fried chips. She eats tomato and cucumber chunks with her meal.

There are ways around it, it just takes planning. My daughter will not eat pasta or rice in any form. I do try everytime we eat it but she will not put it in her mouth I think it is because of the texture more than anything.

As long as your son is eatting some nutrition and not just pure fatty foods then dont worry. Try and hide vegetables in his food. If he eats pasta then blend vegetables and put them in the sauce. If he eats pizza put veggies on the bottom of the pizza and hide them with the foods he does like on the top.

There are lots of mums out there that would say if he is hungry he will eat just give him what you are eatting. All I say to that is if there child was a fussy as mine she would go days without food before eatting at all. As long as she is growing and healthy then I am not worried. Now she has turned 3 she has a multivitamin just to make sure (luckily my daughter is like a little fruit bat and would sooner eat fruit than a main meal) People get het up on what there child consumes. Just be sensible is my answer.
