Has anyone had an experience with febrile seizure?

This last Monday my family and I came home from a long weekend camping trip. My daughter was irritable and I figured it was from the heat and the poison oak she had contracted on her feet. Later in the day she began to run a fever and started to vomit. I gave her fever reducer tucked her in and kept up with her fluids. Her fever hovered around 100-101 degrees from about 2 or 3 p.m on. Around 9 p.m. she began to vomit again. I bathed her with a clothe and checked her temperature 101 again even with the medicine. We were watching one of her favorite shows and she was sitting in my lap when I felt her stiffen up. I looked down and saw her eyes roll into the back of her head and her body begin to convulse. I have had experience with children with epilepsy so I instantly set her down on the bed and rolled her on her side. I watched her and suddenly she turned purple and blue and then stopped breathing. I had to give her CPR. She responded well and her heart started to race afterward while she came back conscious. Her eyes were disoriented and blank and she just was still. we called and ambulance and when to the hospital where we found out that her temperature had risen to 106 degrees! I couldn't believe it. Once they got her fever under control she began to talk slowly at first until she was back to normal and wanting to go home. We went home and the next day her throat was covered in blisters and patches. She had gotten the fever while her body battled Strep throat. She is doing well considering, but my peace of mind is gone. I've done plenty of research on febrile seizures and I know the facts, but I'm still traumatized. (This is not the first time I've experienced a scare with my daughter. When she was a month old she stopped breathing and we ended up in Chicago Children's Hospital where we found out she had severe acid re-flux and the pain literally took her breath away. SHe stopped breathing again at 3 months, but we hadn't had any problems after that until now. This seizure has by far been the worst.) Every mother should be more knowledgeable about febrile seizures. I didn't know how common they were or anything about them before this and it angers me.
Have any of you ever experienced this?

Hi. I'm sorry you and your daughter had to go through that. Febrile seizures are common, but only a small percentage go on to have subsequent seizures. Unfortunately, my daughter, who is now 7 1/2, has had a febrile seizure every 6 months (give or take a month) since just before she turned two. When she was 5, she had one - we didn't even know she was sick! When she started to convulse, though, I discovered she was burning up. She has had multiple complex febrile seizures, one lasting 30 minutes (starting with petit and ending with grand mal seizures), this ups her chances of developing epilepsy. For now, because every seizure she's had has been with a fever and illness, the neurologist, her dad, and I agree to not medicate her. We have a medicine to give her if she goes into one for more than 5 minutes. The time is getting near for her to have another one. I am a nervous wreck. It is such a heartbreaking thing to witness your child go through. I'm still holding out hope that she will grow out of them. She went 14 months without one, we were medically cleared to move overseas (military), I was ecstatic! I was so happy for her! As soon as we got here, she had one. My heart broke. She's had 3 since we've been here. She's the most caring, considerate person I've ever met. Such a huge heart. Frankly, it sucks. There's so much she wants to do, but I can't let her go swimming by herself with her friends, or climb that rock wall, or whatever activity that's even remotely dangerous.

I'm sorry. I know this is long-winded! I don't talk about it much with anyone. It scares people too much, I guess. I hope your daughter never has another one. If there's anything I can help with, though, please let me know.
