No offense(trying not to laugh at you) but it is completely impossible to 'choose' what gender you want your baby to be..its common sense lol. The only way you could do that is if you pay lots of money to have a specialist pick out the female sperm. Nothing you can do yourself will make you have the baby you want because if you knew how reproduction works..you would know that it is the sperm that determines the sex. Best advice..just go for it and see what happens.

The thing is, not all of us have that kind of money to spend. Otherwise that would be many people's first choice.

Have sex a day or 2 BEFORE you ovulate for a girl, right when or right after for a boy. Male sperm swim faster but die sooner. Sounds crazy, but it's true. I have one of each. Of course if your man is low on boy making sperm then...
And OF COURSE you should be happy with a healthy baby of any gender. but I think it's ok to want a girl after having a couple boys. Good luck either way.

By the way, a friend of mine tried according to the XX and XY sperm and she got all 3 her kids with the planned gender. Was it due to this or just pure luck...?

The sperm determines the sex of the baby. The sperm carrying the XY (boy) chromosome is fast, but dies quickly. This means that it needs to find the egg quickly. Having sex around ovulation can increase your chances to have a boy, because the egg has already travelled into the uterus by the time it meets the sperm, so the XY ones will get to it first.
The sperm carrying the XX (girl) chromosome is slower, but has more stamina, so it can go longer distances. Having sex a few days before ovulation can increase your chances to have a girl because the XX sperm travels into the fallopian tube and meets the egg as it is released (the XY sperm can generally not travel that far).
A healthy man's sperm can survive 3-4 days inside a woman, so if you have a typical 28 cycle, and you ovulate around day 14, trying from around day 8 onwards can increase your chances to have a girl. Trying closer to and a day after ovulation can increase your chances to have a boy.
Also, I've heard that banana increases your chances to have a boy, but I'm not sure how much diet can determine a baby's gender...

We tried the Shettles method to have a boy. We did everything right but got a girl. That's okay, my 2 girls are extremely precious so we will welcome another! But it didn't work for us.

Well, the way it happened with my husband and I was we had sex after my menstral cycle and had a little boy. This time around I had not actually realized that the second time around was done before my menstral cycle and we are expecting a little girl this December. Maybe try that way and see if the same applies to you.

Bianca, I hear you. I have one little girl and would love to have a little boy next. There is nothing wrong with wishing for one. I 'm sure if it ends up a girl your going to be happy. There is nothing wrong with trying methods. Not sure if they work but my mom had faith in the chinese calendar and her final attempt she had a boy. It was me first, my sister and lastly my brother. My parents were so happy. I'm superstitious and when you strongly put your whole faith in something and think super positive and put your whole energy in something you will likely receive what you want...try it it works.!!! i'm going to go for my next baby when my daughter turns 3 and i'm hoping for a little baby boy!!! good luck if you have another baby.

My fiance and I were talking about this. Because we have 2 boys and ina few years we would love to have a girl. My fiance told me that they have this thing where a specialist will sift through the sperm and take out all the unhealthy ones and pick out whichever gender you want. We are looking into it. And to all the ladies tht said she shouldn't care.. some people want a specific gender, doesn't mean they will disown it if it is wht they wanted. It just means they will go to greater depths to have the gender they want.

A boy is when you are ovulating and timing of sex as the male sperm only lasts a few hours unlike a girl sperm which lasts for days. it is all to do with timings and temperature and your cycle... its hard work and very demanding as it might be the fact that your man has to get home from work in a pm in order to get the timing right. with a girl it is 'easier' in that just after you finish your cycle when you are not ovulating. I got a girl first time and I am hoping this second is a boy BUT who knows I didn't keep an eye on things

I have 3 beautiful boys. One just trying to get pregnant, one Shettles "opposite," and one that we paid thousands for doing Microsort for a girl and got a boy. I prayed for a daughter from the time I found out I was pregnant the very first time. You may ask God, but His answer may be no. Going through PGD/IVF is the very best chance you can take. Look it up on Ingender.com.

Hi, just a suggestion. What about asking God for a girl. That is if you believe in God. I have two boys, we lost our third child before we could determine its sex and I understand what it is to desire strongly to have a baby girl. I feel like Candice does not understand or maybe she has the key..being content with what you have. I find it quite hurtful for her to say that what does it matter as long as the baby is healthy what does it matter, cause believe me it does matter.

i 2 have 2 boys 1 and 3 and would like a girl. My partner has a girl from a previous relationship. I would love a girl and am thinking about trying again. Both my boys were accidents however looking at the chinese calender they both should have been girls so seems that option doesnt work for me. Am thinking about trying the ovulation technique to see if it works however had the coil fitted after my 2nd son and havent had a period since so need to see if they come back. Any other ideas to try would be appreciated. Another boy would be fine as have all the clothing and equipment from the other 2 but would like to have a girl

@Candice she most probably is wanting to have a girl so that is why she posted the question about tips to conceive a girl.

[deleted account]

I want a girl too! And really moms? We're all on here because we are proud of being mothers. And it's not based on what gender our children are. OF COURSE all mothers want a healthy baby and that's the main priority but there are many of us who wish would could have each gender. I also have two boys 1 and 3. And I love them to death! They are my pride and joy and they are also "mommy's boys." But I would love to have a little girl to dress up and just change things. Mother and son bond but daughter's and mothers have a bond like dads and sons. Why wouldn't anyone want that? I see nothing at all wrong with it. I don't plan on having another child until my youngest is around 3 but I will most likely try the ovulation thing. I don't really understand how to go about it at the moment though. The BC I'm on has kept me from having a period at all and who knows if it will come back when I get off of it. I obviously don't want to stop taking it until we are ready but if it takes 6 months just to figure out for sure when you ovulate then I am not sure that it will work. And for the moms who asked the question will you be happy if it's a boy. Of course I will. I'm even prepared for a boy, considering that I have saved all toys/clothes/bath supplies/etc from my first son and still have all of this--even though we could use the room for their new toys/clothes/bath supplies/etc. :)

Timing definitely worked for us....sex before ovulation for a girl - we started about a week out from ovualtion to about a day before.....and then waited until day of ovulation for boy....I totally agree with you - if you want another baby and you will love them whoever they are there's no harm in trying natural things to try for a girl...we would have loved our little man no matter what but having a girl and a boy is great as we are thinking of stopping at 2 and I would have felt a bit of pressure to try again if we had had another girl....good luck ;)

Cristina P's idea that having sex during ovulation favors conceiving a boy and before ovulation favors conceiving a girl is correct. That is the general premise, although of course not foolproof. In my experience, it's pretty accurate. I didn't plan for either a boy or a girl, but I know when I conceived, and my three pregnancies followed that pattern exactly.

Oh I do not have problems conceiving. the problem is that I want a boy. Now if we had a girl in the process of trying for a boy we would love her to pieces. but we might have to accommodate for a fourth.
I don't think that my insurance would cover in this case because i have no infertility problems
Wait, is this considered infertility???

Patricia you are right. And sadly enought the answer to the question of how do you get a boy/girl is gender selection. What I would suggest is to really do some checking on Insurance. Some insurances do have infertility bebefits, but they do not advertise it. You have to do some digging. I had blue crooss blue shield and I did end up getting help from them for both of my invetro cycles. Not saying Insurance will help with genderselection per say, but maby some of the preparation or medicine along the way??

good point KIM! that would be an astronomical human error. I di not account for that. so my next statement would be.... If done correctly, the only way to get a boy would be gender selection done properly. :o)

I'm not trying to say that this method works 100% of the time. If you read the original question, which is the question I'm answering, she asked what people have tried. I read the disclaimer. It says that on everything from Web MD to your vitamins! I was just sharing what seemed to have worked for me. Chances of it being coincidence are pretty good. It's 50/50 either way you slice it. I actually came up with this method for myself after learning about the differences between Male and Female sperm in an anatomy and phisiology class. I don't claim to be the first to come up with it, but I came to the conclusion on my own. NOTHING IN LIFE IS CERTAIN!!!! I was just simply answering the question that was asked.

Just a comment on Jennifer's "100% certainty" method....I met a couple once that had one boy and wanted just one more boy to complete their family. They went to the top specialist and paid an astronomical amount of money to have the boy, via "gender selection" where they spin the sperm or whatever and purposely only inseminate the male sperm.....This couple got pregnant from that with TWIN GIRLS!!! So I don't think anything is "100%".

Megan, note, that the last statement at the bottom is "Everything we say is not approved by FDA. None of our products and statements is intended to treat, diagnose, ameliorate any disease." ..... and there is a reason for that statement. Anyone can put any information on the internet. That doese not make it true! My credentials come with 22 years of nursing experience, being a mother of 4 children ages from 19 yrs ol to 13 months old, 2 IVF cycles and 7 years of infertility problems after my first two children. just saying, thats all.

Im right there with you, had 2 girls back to back and swore that was the end of it. but here i am wanting a boy. Im getting my mirena taken out on Monday and going for the Shettles method. I would prefer getting it done in a lab and really be sure about it but i don't have 20 grand to spend, (although it would definitely be money well spent)
I can't wait to talk to the doctor about this and see what he says.
I hope it works out for you

The only way to get a specific sex with 100 % certaintly is thru gender selection. There are fertility clinics that can sepparate the male and female sperm. That is the only way. It is entirely the male sperm that decides the sex of your baby. if a male sperm fertalizes your egg, you get a boy, and if is a female sperm, you get a girl. no changing that!! no diet, pills, counting days, sex up side down, blah, blah, blah, none of that stuff that people come up with will sway your chance of one sex over another. period! If they tried any methods out there and got what they had wished for, It was pure coincidence (sp?) and had nothing to do with what ever silly thing they were trying. And even if they think the sill methods used worked, no way to insure it will work for you. But, good luck to you, and I wish you a happy healthy baby when the day comes.

I had 4 girls! had to wait for my first grandson ( 5 days old now) to get my boy!!

Hey Bainca! I was right there with you a few years ago.....I had 2 boys and desperately wanted a daughter. I prayed a LOT, but wanted to give God all the help I could, so I bought the book "How To Choose The Sex Of Your Baby" by Dr. Laura Shettles, (and someone else ?). If you read this book, the chapter how to have a girl, it explains everything scientifically, and it is called the "Shettles" method of conceiving. I followed everything it said. Be prepared to chart your ovulation for about 6 months, takes time & patience....get a basal body thermomoeter and Good Luck! Worked for me. My daughter (baby #3) is beautiful & perfect! Ignore these people. Just b/c your heart wants a girl, like mine did, does not mean you don't love your boys, or would not love whatever God Blesses you with. They say after having 2 of the same sex in a row the chances are 70% that you will conceive the same sex again. I beat the odds, so hopefully your dreams will come true too! :-)

I know how you feel. I have a girl and a boy but would love another girl. We are currently 35 weeks pregnant with our 3rd child and i refused to find out what we were having as i like the suprise. As Much as i would love another girl i know that as long as this baby is healthy then i will be happy and personally i feel like it is a boy. I just wish those people who have said you shouldnt do it would pull their heads in cause like most mothers who want children or would prefer one gender dont really care what they get in the long run! Good luck and let us know if you are ver successful in getting your girl! :)

Read about the Shettles method. I also just read tons online and although I have no idea if it really helps on its own, I took a calcium and magnesium supplement and tried to lower my salt intake (these things are supposed to favor a girl). I am due with a girl next month. I have two wonderful who I am head over heels in love with...and I knew I would love another boy because my heart melts over mine. However, my husband and I thought it would be fun to have a girl too (she will be the only granddaughter in our entire family, so will likely be very spoiled by family!). We didn't go through any extreme measures and truth be told, I didn't even use the Shettles method (too hard...husband had just come back from Afghanistan and all the timing stuff was too much for us). Just did the supplements.

Hi!! I have 2 boys and a girl and I always wanted to have a girl. I thought I wouldn`t have any more kids after the 2nd.... I have read a lot about different methods to have a boy or a girl... and With my second it didn't work ...but I think it did with my first kid. Then I was pregnant again!! as it was when I was about to have my period, that it's supposed that you can't be pregnant in those days!!! and without any plans for it, I thought it would be another boy .... I think those methods don't always work.. as it may be a combination of so many factors. But of course, I think you are on your right to desire a baby girl and obviously if it's a boy you'll love him so much. Good luck!!

Hi, I have 4 kids, 3 girl's and then a boy. The way i tried for a boy was to get a "maybe baby" ( it's a stick that you lick to see if your ovulating ) when I begain to ovulate I waited a few days before having sex. I was working on the theory that boy sperm are quick swimmers and would arrive at the egg quicker if the egg was down further. Girl sperm are slower at swimming but last longer so can travel the distance to the higher egg. ie - early in your fertalised time.
It did work for me ( and a couple of other people I know ) but who know's what might happen in your case.
I wish you well and don't be put off by others saying that you sould be happy with whatever you get - I'm sure you would be still happy anyway, but i can't see anything wrong with tilting the odds in your favor : )

Of course us mothers love our sons and would welcome another, but variety would be nice , besides who are you going to have tea parties with?? lol...
