HELP!!! My son is constantly playing with his penis

I have a soon to be 3 yrs old and he constantly plays with his penis. When he is buckled in his carseat he starts rubbing his legs together with his hands pushing down where his penis is. He'll do this every time while watching tv he'll also do it and all the while grunting like he's enjoying it. Is that normal? I've asked him to stop and even threatened to pinch him but he goes at it and doesn't stop until I either move him from that spot on the couch pick him up from his bed or remove him from the carseat. I was curious if his penis would be erect so I checked him and it stands straight up when he does this. I'm so annoyed because people comment and ask me whyy he does that and I have no answer other than he likes it. :-/ then people comment that "he's getting off" on that. it's frustrating and bothersome that he does this because every time I hear grunting I know what he's doing. Is there anything that I can do to have him stop? I'm at my wits end with this subject.

it is completely normal. It is something that needs to be done in private, however, and you need to stress that to him. I must add that at this age, unless he has been inappropriately exposed to sex, it is not sexual for him. All he knows is that it feels good, and again, unless previously exposed, it does not carry any correlation to sex. Whatever you do, do not make him feel bad about it, or tell him that it's bad or naughty or anything like that (no pinching, either). You do not want him to have sexual psychological issues when he gets older, and believe me, he will if he thinks it's dirty or disgusting, or wrong, etc. Good luck to you, my son is going through the same thing right now :)

LOL @penis standing straight up. My little boy masturbates as well, and it's totally normal. Just teach him about privacy is all, and all we be well.

Yes it's completely normal. At 3 years old you need to start teaching him that it's something he needs to do in the bathroom or his bedroom. Everytime he starts just gently remind him that he either needs to go to his room or head to the bathroom. It's going to take a quite a while and you'll have to remind him constantly but eventually he'll get it.
