It could be growing pains. My son has been waking up with these pains on and off since he was 2 he is 4 now and the pains seem to be more in his knees, ankles, upper arm area. Its not all the time but I also have to rub wherever hurts to help him feel better. I use vicks vapor rub on his spots that hurt, it seems to help! I also sometimes wrap and ace bandage around the problem area. Your child is small so im unsure if that will be ok for him, but goodluck i hope you find something that works for you!

Hmm, can kids get leg cramp this young? That's the sort of thing I have to do if I wake up with cramp, stretch it out or rub them hard. Maybe mention it to your health visitor or doctor.
