How do you get a child to sit at the table and eat meals?

My son is 2 years old and sits at the table at daycare but will not sit at the table with us at home. I feel like he is going to wake up at night if he doesn't eat so sometimes I follow him around and feed him...I know bad habit! Any suggestions?

We have rules about meal times which mostly get followed. He has to wash his hands, have a bib on and sit in his highchair properly before he gets to eat. Occasionally he has refused to sit in his chair or keeps standing up, won't wash his hands etc. We just calmly leave his plate on the table and tell him that when he is ready to sit down properly etc he gets his food. It works every time! If your son knows that if he doesnt follow some basic rules, he doesnt get tasty food, he will soon learn that he can't get just walk away from the table etc.

We have always strapped my daughter in, for her own safety, as she's very wriggly. She's almost 3 and we still strap her in. She knows that when we sit at the table, it's time for eating. We remind her that she won't get food after dinner - that's it. I give her specific amounts to eat (3 bites of meat and you can have a piece of mango, or 5 more bites and you're done) and she usually ends up eating more than that.

Thanks, I have a booster seat with straps so I will have to just force the issue and listen to him cry! I did that last night and he cried the whole time and didn't eat anything.

I got a booster seat with belt straps that are connected to the chair and the child after my son threw a few fits he knew he wasn't getting out of them and just gave up. Now my son is 2 1/2 yrs almost 3 and doesn't need booster seat or the straps he come to the table when i yell TIME TO EAT!
