how safe is cold turkey ?

If she won't drink for a few days have her eat a lot of watermelon, apples etc. things with lots of water in them. She will get her fluids that way.

throw out all the bottles, then that way u can't get them back.She will drink when she is thristy!I love her spirit to fight u thou lol!

I think you might be surprised. You could also put a cup down and leave the room...she may be more inclined to do it when you aren't looking...easier to give in if they think you "won't know" =)

She will drink when she needs to...if you keep giving the bottle back you are showing her that if she waits long enough she'll get it.

my son had a beaker of water with a meal since he was 4months, when it came to take bottles of milk away it took about 2weeks to wean him off them, 1st only bottle before bed then no bottle at all, 1week was only bottle in bed then 2nd week it was no bottles at all. he drank out of a beaker fine because he'd already had one since he could remember, it took the 2nd week because he kept asking and crying for one. so really it only took one week, i'm confusing myself.

Did you try the cup with the rubber sucker thats similar to a bottle?



At nearly two you could almost try her straight to a plastic cup. Since she is so stubborn you could try a little bribery, get her favourite juice and put it in a cup, and plain water in a bottle. If she wants the nice stuff she has to drink from a cup, if she wants a bottle then she has to drink water.

Maybe try drinking some of her favourite juice and letting her try a drink. Or ask her just to take one sip then you'll give her a bottle.



Make sure that if you do get her to drink from the cup (even one sip) make a big big deal about it, phone daddy at work, granny, tell the cat and dog make a big big issue out of how big a girl she is

I went cold turkey with Laura too, she cried for a bit and wanted bottles back, but as mentioned below its just to see if she can win.

Just don't give in, throw the bottles away and tell her thats the only cup you have. She'll give in eventually.

I went from bottles to cups with a bottle type sipper so they felt similar to a bottle in her mouth, then onto the hard plastic ones.

My first baby was bottle fed and I took away the bottle cold turkey. She cried the first day because she would not accept her milk in a cup... By the second day I went to buy the Nuby cups with the plastic spout and she took it without a problem. On the third day, I gave her a regular sippy cup with milk and she took it and at night still gave her a Nuby. On the fourth day, she was completely on sippy cups. She was 13 months when I took the bottle away.
FYI, hide the bottles from your daughter's view. Out of sight out of mind!

We went from all bottles to only one at night at about 12 months. At about 13 or 14 months we did away with the night time bottle as well. I am all for cold turkey as they will ask for the bottle if they think it is available. Good luck!

She'll just see if you are going to give in. They will drink when they are thirsty. I went cold turkey from the bottle to the sippy cup and for the pacifier for my oldest son. It works a lot better then all the other advice that everyone gave me.

I think going cold turkey is fine. She'll drink if she's thirsty. Good luck!
